Well said Bushy they do a awesome job in some extreme conditions, as for the firebugs that light them they are absolute lowlifes that should be throw in front of the fires if they are caught! Crazy that we have bad fires in October isnt it.

Yeah it's a sad state of affairs in NSW and the hunter, all you see and smell is smoke. We have fires all around us within 30 min radius but can't see it affecting us thank god.....the first sign of threat and the expandas getting hitched up and we're gone!
Three cheers for the fireries!!

Right on guys. Having been in the Rural Brigade I know what the fireries are going through although I never experienced as bad as it seems down there. I have a sister-in-law with kids and grandkids living in Winmalee and they are all worried but currently safe. 2 houses across the road from a niece are gone while her husband is helping the fireries wetting down as much as possible. Another nephew can't get home at all so is unsure if he still has a home but his kids are safe with grandparents. We are getting update from them all on Facebook continuously.

I take my hat off to all those volunteers and hope you all stay safe.

Check out this idiot from earlier this afternoon, he is less than 2min from where the RFS has listed a fire as watch & act, & has been caught tossing a smoke from his car on a day like this.

Hope all those in NSW are safe, we got evacuated from the Newcastle airport today, but hired a car and flew out of Sydney. As a volunteer firey, it was scary to see how thick the smoke was both at Newcastle and over Sydney.

Stay safe to all in those areas.

Thanks mate, all good here, after a fairly warm day here today I just step outside and it's quite cool with minimal wind, hopefully give the firies the upper hand, I haven't gone south this week just to see how bad it was, it's still burning and spread east Picton road still coast from Wilton to the coast

I heard achjimmy was in the thick of it up the mountains the other day, but is back home playing the waiting game still
His posts from MySwag

From Monday

We got chucked out at 4pm. The firies setup in the driveway. Told us its going to look spectacular but will probably be mild, crawled all over the property, checked our fire pump and wanted a run down on it, was happy with everything that we had done. Didnt seem, concerned about us staying till the police turned up and kicked us out. Pretty quick in the end, got the family (including dog) cruza, Rodeo, all the amo (didnt want firey's facing WW3 if the house went up ) and the engel. Reminded them again not to risk there lives for my place and left. Gotta admire them.

From Tuesday

Thanks Guys, all good and back home. My neighbor rang and said the firies suggested we come back but had to talk past the coppers. They had about 6 trucks n the street and a ton of guys waiting around. Midal Dural RFS up here to help out cheers.gif hoses everywhere. Not long after they were denied a Back burn and left.
Strangely eery here tonight with only two of us in the street. Took some cold waters up to the firey's and coppers but the firey's had gone. It's good to see the riot police in the black patrols constantly patrolling the streets with there spotties on looking for scum whom may take advantage of the situation.

Worse bit for us is the waiting, it's going to come and good chance it'll be twice! The Springwood fire will creep around the valley and come up from behind, should be manageable especially with the units they had today. The second will come from the Grose Valley in the next few days and is unpredictable but will be fearsome coupled with the westerlies we get here.

Copping our share today - smoke from Stockrington fire plus another smaller fire just up the road making it very shitty outside!
My usual 10k trip home from work became 38k's today with a rather large detour!

Wouldn't think anything was still burning around this area, clear skies as far as you can see at the moment, wind keeping any smoke away, just the occasional fly past of the choppers back to the stagging point at Bargo.
