Hey @megcam, I suggest using the mounting plate. It enables a good solid base for the unit to screw down to which eliminates any flex when the van/unit is bouncing around along the road. Also the bottom lip of the plate acts as a bit of a heat shield between the exhaust and your chipboard floor.

I'm surprised this doesn't come standard with your order. From memory my order just needed the fuel tank as an addition.

haven't bought mine yet
We were talking to a couple last week who've done a lot of travelling and use one of those Cobb cookers, as an outside cooker. At least I think it was .....anyway, one of those that use heat beads.
They were telling us of some people who use the cooker to heat the inside of their vans in really cold weather.
I nearly had a fit!
Gas leaks, carbon monoxide etc etc not to mention the danger of knocking it over accidentally.

At the risk of staying off topic, that is unbelievably stupid.
Last winter a guy died at Easter whilst camping with a heat bead heater in his shed.
Another died in his bedroom using a tray of heat beads to warm the house.
Carbon Monoxide is odourless, colourless and deadly.

I'm sure no one on this forum would be stupid enough....but there are people out there who might be tempted.....and you can understand why there are accidents if they don't think about implications of using something for which it was never intended. And probably had warnings listed in the instructions.

And here i was trying to find a solution to having to peel back the lino and set fire to the floor of the van every time we go camping! :flame:
Seriously though the website i quoted previously has a mounting bracket as a separate option. For an extra $50 I suppose I should just order one. Was also going to get the timer controller so we can get the heater to start up at say 5am rather than Mrs Megcam getting out of bed to push the button

But some people just don't know and unfortunately that is how these fatalities occur.
By the time I've set up the readings on the gas emissions metre, the carbon monoxide metre, the various other safety stuff we've got installed".........I'm exhausted.
I think we'll just add some extra blankets for our next trip, along with a column heater if we need to antifreeze.
And buy some thermals.

Nice touch with the timer controller. Im very tempted to get that remote call unit ... so i can ring it from my mobile in bed and turn it on ... plus just to chat
I would suspect if theyre listing a mounting plate as an option, then the kit likely doesnt come with it. Bit silly, would be dangerous and near impossible to mount the heater without the plate.
Simple answer i suppose is to ask them.
