Been stalking this website for the last couple of months since deciding to purchase an Expanda. Today was finally the day, went down to the local Jayco dealer with the intention of checking out a 16 footer but ended up buying a Feb 2015 built 17.56.01 OB.

Price was up around the $50000 mark. Ended up with the following inclusions.

Extra water tank
Hot water system
Outdoor shower
Fusion stereo indoor/outdoor speakers
wind up antenna
picnic table
23.6 inch T.V
Van cover

Ended up paying $47 flat, I'm sure that this is no record breaking cheap price but I was pretty comfortable with it. Best thing about the new 2015 is that they include almost everything that I wanted anyway.

I would have liked the extended draw bar but I traded off getting it for an early delivery time (pick up on 1st April, I made sure I set the time down for after 12 so no April fools jokes !!), I am not known for my patiance so waiting until June/July was not an option for me.

Only issue I had was ATM was 2525 so I had it written on the contract that new compliance plate will read ATM of 2500 as I am towing with 2012 Prado.

Anyway, can't wait to pick up the van and get amongst it. Look forward to many more post's and will put up some pic's when I get.

Thanks,

Ben

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Just a quick question though or more so looking for opinions. After paying the deposit on the van on Saturday I specifically spoke with the dealer about having the van locked up and or removed from the lot to prevent others from trudging through it.

I don't begrudge anybody that wants to have a look at it but I know what happen's to most most of the van's which are on display at dealerships. Mum and Dad check out various van's whilst little Johnny/Mary jump on the bed, open and close as many cupboards and drawers as possible, stand on the table, pick their nose's and wipe what they finds on the closest thing etc etc etc

Is it fair for me to request the van to be taken from the lot or at least secured pending viewings in the presence of a salesman. I don't want to sound like Oscar the grouch, The van is still on display and still open to the public however and I don't really want my pride and joy trashed before I take possession of it, my kids will do a good enough job of that themselves.

What do you think????
Also, what is the consensus on brake controllers??? Does anybody have the Redarc Tow Pro fitted and if so, what do they think. I have a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 at the moment to refit but have been told it won't fit in the 2012 Prado due to knee airbags!

Sounds fair to me. Actually, i would assume that the dealer would be keen to keep it clean and intact so that you have no room to complain when picking up! My van was built for me. The dealer told me that In between its arrival at the dealer and my pickup he had managed to sell one or two of the same van by showing people through. 'Good luck to you' i said. The van was immaculate when i picked up so everyone was happy!

Congrats on the purchase of your van mate. As ol' mate above has said, I have the Tow Pro in my prado and cant fault it. I tow a 16footer and havent had an issue in terms of power or response. More detail in my thread in the Tow Vehicles section. Any other questions, please feel free to ask mate.

Oh and Welcome to the friendly forum.

I wouldn't be happy everyone trudging through my van if they persist in displaying it maybe a cheaper price for u if not lock it up its yours not everyone's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine purchased another brand of caravan, and during the purchase process the salesman refused to allow access to a particular van on the lot because it had been sold ...... i think that would be a acceptable expectation, but they may need a nudge, after all its your van now

So the time has finally come, tomorrow is the big day to pick up the new 17.56.01.

Does anybody have any tips for me on delivery, ie anything I should look for, ask about or take particular care in checking???

Very exciting times, almost wish I wasn't going to Fiji during Easter break and instead going away with the new van.

Thanks

I recently removed my old Hayman Reese knee banger and fitted the Redarc TowPro. Much better having everything out of sight, works very well, easy to calibrate and the LED colours tell you all you need to know (you obviously don't get the voltage readout like the P3)

There have been some good checklists posted before, I had a quick search but nothing popped up. Have a go.

Best advise I can give @BWC is to make sure you get them to show you how everything works (Twice if you were not sure after the first) and ask questions if not sure about anything.

In saying the above........ First thing would be to check it out and make sure you're getting exactly what you ordered and things were fitted where you wanted them to go.

Good Luck and guessing a sleepless night will be ahead of you ;)

OH and don't forget the pics :photo:

Take a notebook and write as much as you can down. In particular the battery switches and hot water.
Still confuses me when I haven't been in the van for a while.
