I like the set Crystal has posted pics of they could be may of a variety of materials and look as though they would pack straight up without having to remove them. Do you have the details of the company who did the work crystal? I'm sure a few other members would be keen to speak to them.

We never have to take them or the privacy screens off and have no trouble packing the ends in.

I made a set out of heavy duty tarp material but found it too noisy.

The canvas ones have been great over winter as they have kept the panda nice and warm but can be pegged out or rolled up to let in the breeze and light.

Pm if you would like the upholsterers phone number.

View attachment 16190 View attachment 16191 View attachment 16192 We had a set made up by a local upholster for $500.00 the set. They attach over top of the privacy screens with sail track that Aaron bought from Bunnings and put on himself. We are able to fold the beds up with them on and have never taken them off.
Hi crystal674 well done these look really great and reasonably priced. I am looking for an option for our van also. Is there any chance you could send me the contact or website of who made these? I would love to speak to them. Was it difficult to fit the sail tracks? We're they just drilled and screwed into the lid or another method? Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys and girls,

Brooke and I have ordered our panda and supposed to be delivered in November, just wondering now that the black privacy screens are standard we accidentally ordered the bag awnings over the bed end as well, my question is, has anyone had experience with the in the way of keeping the heavy rain off of the privacy screen and canvas or should I cancel the bag awning and get another one made up from a canvas shop?

I need these bed ends I have seen holidays annex ones by the photos but I like a bit of variety is their any other company that does these if not, why not ?we all need them but im finding $1000 is a bit to steep for what they are I don't need 3 windows in them one would be fine im looking for the tracks they use holiday annex will charge me $150 for set I know bunning has stainless steel not sure about plastic ones, ive seen someone use material like a banner material and had them Velcro across original privacy screen look great, kept the warmth in and is waterproof,it was all in one piece.so what Im weigh up is stop being a tight asse and pay $1000 not sure if I be disappointed in the material they use or hunt down the tracks pot rivuet to van purchase rubber vinyl stich and run through the tracks, considering last time I camped I use shower screen curtain that did the job but kept falling down due to double sided tape all thoughts will be welcome
Hi Grover

I have done something similar as to what you posted with some clear plastic.
We like the sunlight coming through the bed end as there is no window at the end of our van so wnat to keep as much light as possible in.

I went for .3mm clear vinyl/plastic $50.00 for 5 m at bunnings
5mtrs of black velcro male and female or whatever and 30mins of the daughters sewing time.

Sewed the velcro onto the black shadecloth and onto the clear plastic.
Will be perfect for us as we will only use it when wet.

Now to just trim it up and be careful with the scissors!
$60.00 not too bad I say!

Well I've had some pretty damp trips and never really had that much issue with wet bedding etc only some minor sepage around stitching etc, however I have been thinking more and more about getting bedend cover of some form, I like the light and fresh air comming through so for me it has to be windows, There some awesome DIY jobs/low cost one one here. Well done to all.

I recently had a look the the ones buy Kakadu (Similar to Holiday Annexes) though they are vinyl, no stitching all heat sealed seams. though you can't leave them on

Then came the price which I already knew would be right up there,,,, $990 fitted :faint: HMMMM back to the drawing board.

We have pegged out the bed ends out during rain to let the breeze through without getting wet.

Our previous homemade screens attached via a hole punched into them which the stud from the privacy screen is pushed.

Attempts to use stick-on Velcro were unsuccessful as it just kept coming off from the changes in temperature.

$60 vs approx $1000. Easy decision for me.

Hi All. We are the proud owners of a new 17.56.1. Just a little curious at the fact that so many are feeling the need for additional waterproof covers for the bed ends. Having upgraded from a Swan with canvas ends, we really had very little issues water leaks, so am wondering what is the difference with the expandas? One of the first things we did was weather the bed ends a couple of times and it seems ok so far. The bed end flies do seem to sit a bit closer to the canvas than the swan though, so maybe this makes it easier for the canvas to get wet. Appreciate your response,
Cheers :)

Welcome and congrats Navman. Some people have experienced wet bedding or mattress, probably more so from wind and rain (sideways rain) rather than just rain and mattress touching canvas causing the moisture to come through. Personally this hasn't happened to me yet but i can see how it could, i made up a clear pvc cover like many have done just in case!

We have an Expanda jayco with bunk beds, but like everyone else have had many wet bed ends and pillows and sleeping bags. I was thinking of having ends made but the cost was massive. So how would it work if I took the black screening in and had plastic covers made from these style. I know u loose the fly cover but I am not worried about that so much as wet beds. Would the cost possibly be cheaper and use the existing press studs, as long as the plastic isn't too heavy. Oh does anyone find the fly mesh is too short in one corner too, will be sure to have a little extra fitted here. Also get them to put a longer tab on with a new press stud.

G'day @Toni Jenkinson and welcome to the forum. We did exactly what you are suggesting except we did it with canvas. Here is my thread from 2 years back on the subject. We leave the canvas on (have removed the black screen ) as it folds up under the hard lid. We did use the existing press studs but because of the stretch in the black screens the guy who made ours said they may not be in the exact spot and he has missed one by about 5mm so it is a bit of a stretch to fit it but it does stay on. Very happy with it.
