upgrade of payload 2013 starcraft OB 20.62

I have just had success in increasing my payload on my van. The GVM was increased from 2600 kg to 3000Kg with a simple inspection by a local trailer manufacture where he looked at the brakes, axel, set up and gave it the green light. New mod plate was made up and will get put over pits in the morning. The brakes are rated to 3T so that's that. Can now be fully legal and above board. Something needs to be done with caravan manufacturers doing the dodgy in regard to payloads of their vans.

Hi Matthew, Would you mind sharing the name of the trailer manufacturer that did the inspection for you? I tried to do the same thing through a Jayco dealer but was basically shut down.

I get the feeling I wasted ten mins sending Jayco an email on this very topic!! If I get a reply I will certainly post it on the forum. If there is an easier local way to achieve this I would also like to know. Our ATM is 2272kg and our axle group is 2700kg, would love to get it close to the 2500kg the Prado is allowed to tow.

I upgraded the ATM of the Coromal. I see you are in Perth - do the following and then book an inspection thru the Dept of Transport -

To do it yourself:you need to check/upgrade a few items
What is your van's existing Tyre max load rating? can be a number like 110/112 or the actual max load rating. If 110 then do a google for load rating - you may have to replace the tyres!
What is the size of the brake drums - I think you need 12" for over 2t.
Check you have a breakaway installed (should have if over 2000kg) You would already have a electric brake controller in your Prado.
Check the load capacity of the hitch and chains are = or > than the max you want to increase to.

Or contact a trailer repairer - some will do these checks for you.

I got a reply from Jayco this morning and they will not assist in weight upgrades so i will continue down the trailer manufacturer path.

Pretty sure they will only assist if you request it prior to the unit being built. I had mine upgraded on request as part of the order to 600Kgs.

Had both our new vans replayed by Jayco but to diff circumstances . First one I stipulated 375 with order so the dealer saw the 200 something and organized a replacement plate before pickup. The second was the starcraft and again the factory plate was well shy of the brochure 475kg so I requested a new plate but them also asked for an upgrade to 650 or so after going to a weighbridge. They came back And gave me 550 or 600 iirc so they will do it if the van isn't to old and the dealer is willing?
