The length of chassis is a funny one as the SWB Prado has a higher tow capacity than the LWB. Personally, I will still. Back that it is marketing people making the call.

I also think that the State DoT's just go buy whatever the Manufacturer says its its limit and dont look into it..... cynical yes....
most of the "inspectors" I have met / seen here in WA just Mechanic's - not Engineers

I had an argument with one once
- my mates brand new 1984 Rodeo king cab 6 months old- fitted with 10R15 tyres, scrub bars and flares - all by the GMH dealer
copper on the road put a sticker on - over width tyres
I took it over the pits, and the "inspector" would not pass it, as he thought the tyre were too wide and un-safe
I asked him for it in writing - plus for him to put down his Engineering Degree, and also from the records who pass it for initial Licensing
he asked "why??"
I said "so I could own GMH"
he said "why??"
I said "because it was all factory fitted, then licensed in WA by the RTA and I have a good Lawyer"
he said "why??"
I said "because you said it is not safe - therefore GMH has sold an UN-roadworthy vehicle, and it was licensed, and I will be rich - and you my friend will share in the spotlight when I take GMH to Court"

funny - he passed it then.....................

the 3 I do know - used to be RAC patrolmen - then went to Licensing Dept. to retire............
