Managed to snap a quick shot of what was left of the inside.
Glad no-one was in there when it hit...

Its amazing the cabins in the background look pretty good, mother nature hey?
That's what I thought too, but looking at them a couple have also been knocked off their footings too, but no other vans around to cause damage from the flying debris.

We met our insurance assessor up there today too.
No dramas on their part, it is a total loss....

You're right there Matty, it is just as well no one was inside at the time. It must be heart wrenching to see all that devastation and even worse to be a part of it. I hope it all comes good.

Thanks for the reminder CD. A month goes by and we are distracted or move on to new concerns and forget important things.
Hope all's getting gradually sorted Matt, or as well as can be expected. Did you manage to get away for Easter?

We did manage to get away for Easter, thankfully.
One of our good friends who also lost her place in the caravan park lives in Cobram, so a few of us who would normally be there for Easter crashed with them instead. We took our Expanda and camped in their driveway, my brother and his family had a spare room and my best mate who also lost his van borrowed a Kimberley Kamper and put it in the backyard. Plenty of drinks around a fire every night reminiscing (we even managed to take the jetskis out on the river for a blast)
Hey Matty4 How is the clean up going for you?
Unfortunately the clean up has been halted due to an asbestos contamination.
Several of the older vans had annexes built with the stuff and since it is now spread over several sites the EPA, Worksafe NSW ( or whatever they are called), NSW Ministry for Police and Emergency Services Public Works dept have all stepped in and shut the site down.
Only now are they calling for tenders for the cleanup and removal of the asbestos contamination.
Tenders close 2nd May with an anticipated end to the cleanup by 30th June.
Only then will we be allowed in to salvage anything remaining. Meanwhile the weather, vermin etc etc will have free reign over the place.
Then the site cleanup can begin.

Hopefully not to much further damage to some of our possessions results.

Update for those interested.
Last weekend we finally got back up there to retrieve any salvageable stuff.
The contractors who are doing the cleanup went through each place and bought out any items that people wanted to keep and stored them in shipping containers at the parks entrance. We managed to get most of our furniture and some appliances out from both mine and my parents place.

What's left of my place now...

My parents site of 30 years

Unfortunately we won't be rebuilding as the owners have decided to make it an all cabin park, and whilst we could rebuild, the starting price of a new cabin is $55K up to $140K.
None of my family or friends that have been up there for 30 years or so can afford that, so if they're not going back, neither are we. Kids are devastated.....

This summer instead, we have booked a houseboat on the Murray River at Robinvale, with trips to Eildon planned instead.

G'day @Matty4, sorry to here that you can't go back without spending a fair amount of cash. Such a shame that they don't look after the people that have supported them for so long. A positive to take out is that you and your family are safe and really that's what matters. Just think of the holidays you can have in the panda again!
Cheers

Thanks for the (sad) news, @Matty4.
I think it's quite important that you've made a clean break.
The end of one story provides the opportunity to now start writing another.
Houseboat holiday sounds cool...maybe all dress up as pirates and get your dad an eye patch
(perhaps don't costume up until after handover though!);)

Yes it is the end of an era. That place has been a part of my family for so long.

As a way of softening the blow for the kids we have decided to take them to Disneyland next year (before they all get too old).
It's something we've always wanted to do but never got around to it because we always went away to our cabin in Mulwala.
This gives us the opportunity to visit plenty of other places now.

The hardest part is trying to convince my wife to sell her little Ford Focus and buy something that can tow our boat whilst I tow the Expanda so we can still enjoy summer holidays with both boat and van................we'll see.

Thoughts are with you mate!

At least you have some positives to look forward to.

Not the best outcome but at least time to move forward.

Hope everything pans out for you....

Sorry to hear that.
But something is always around the corner and things have a way of working out in the end.
Sounds like you are on the ground floor for starting your own family era.
