I thought I'd start a thread about what torches everyone uses when out camping with there Jayco's. With so many varieties to choose from what are your experiences with the different types available and what bargains have you found when purchasing a torch.

I know there are some great deals online and at the camping store etc but what has worked well for you?

I have an old school Dolphin torch that has stood the test of time :) and a led rechargable torch that has worked well but I was looking for something smaller with a good light output.
So when I recently put the Bullbar on the BT I spotted this torch on the shelf at the local ARB store so I thought I might grab one for the glove box. Its compact and puts out a great amount of light for its size. You can use the led light bar part or use it via the light on the end like a conventional torch.

Yeah, I would be interested in comments too.
We bought some torches but they're crap. Light output is poor and one has already broken. Will have a look at what brand I purchased next time I'm at the Expanda and let you all know.

Like the look of that one Cruza, and multi function is always gonna come in handy! Can I what how much $$$.

I got a bit of a deal due to also buying the Bullbar but it was around the $50 mark Lara, and its light output is very impressive for its size and you can tell its a quality torch by its fell. Wurth is a German company that is maybe a bit more expensive than some brands but the quality is very good.

Its perfect to leave in the car or in the Expanda as its a compact torch with plenty of punch

Sounds like a good buy Cruza. I'm always willing to part with a little more cash for a quality product that will last. Because going by my last torch purchase, that was money down the toilet.......
$50 sounds pretty reasonable for a rechargeable LED flashlight too. Not bad at all!

60 LED Auto Worklight

Bought one of these from Aldi about 8 months ago for $20. It works well with 2 intensity settings and a magnet in the back. Charge lasts for hours. I also have a rechargeable hand held spotlight and 3 of those $3 9 LED mini torches.

Its funny I can't find my torch online either as I wanted to post a link to it. That looks like a good buy but I think the advantage of the Wurth one is its got the choice of the led light bar or coventional torch. Although the convention part only has the one led but is not eye blinding when using it. In saying that it depends what you want to for ;)

Like you cd I've had the trusty dolphin torch for years but about 2 years ago I bought a torch similar to a dolphin from Aldi but its led, works pretty good! Also bought a 3 pack of small led torches from SCA, alloy body and takes 3AAA batteries, value for money! My bro in law has a thing for torches......a bit of a torch fetish, he has one which has 1 led and I've never seen anything so bright with an awesome beam.....unbelievable!

Wurth is great quality stuff, used a lot of their products at my old workplace, not easily found at a retail level though.

I have an assortment of torches that I find handy;

This little one lives on my key ring, recharges in a cig socket, very handy.

Cheap LED version of a Dolphin, works well and gets regular use.

The venerable Mag Light, in LED. This lives in the door pocket in the BT.

And finally this one has a variety of uses, but generally used when working on the car or van. Its compact, has a hook and magnets, and slides closed.

Nearly forgot, we keep a couple of those little headlight LED ones in the van, they come in handy when you have your hands full!

Cheers
Shane

I have the head lamps from anaconda the simple 3 led ones bright enough to find your way around and don't chew batteries.

They where on sale reduced from 20 to 3 bucks so I bought about 20 of them :)!!!!

I like the headlamps as it leaves your hands free for other things (no ideas now)....

I have a sickness in that I collect torches, that and backpacks. We all have vices:crazy:.

I use the energiser hard case from bunnings, its great with the swicel head as you can put it on the ground and angle the light if changing tyre etc.

I think it was just on $40 from bunnings. Its got a white, red and green led with different light levels etc. Bright and very robust.

Just a thought there is the version that Ive posted and one with a yellow grip, I think they are slightly different but I cant remember how. I have the yellow grip one.

Cheers

Hi All,

We use a variety of torches, Mike7's Energiser Hard Case is one, we also use Pelican Torches either the Nemo LED or the Sabrelite for diving and the LED Lenser H7 for a headlamp. LED's definetly seem to be the way to go as far as bulb burn time and battery life are concerned.

LED Lenser H7

I too have old school Dolphin in the Panda, but need something more pocket size or headtorch for those after dark pooch walks when she comes with us, have had a couple of those little palm size LED's but they keep shatting themselves.
