I recently got myself a DSLR 1100d its entry level slr and the price was right. I've been learning as I go in regards to settings etc but here are a few shots I took at Warburton Vic the other week of the Yarra River.

I took plenty more some maybe a bit better but its all about learning so I thought I would share these with you

Great start CD. Keep sharing. Take the camera with you whenever practical. The greatest photo opportunities often come at the most unexpected times. Pop along to your library and check out the "how to" digital photography books to get some ideas of techniques and tips you can easily employ with your DSLR.
Keep a little notebook in your camera bag to record details beyond the metadata.
You will soon start to see with "camera eyes" like Andrea obviously does. Adjust and crop your favourite shots and create a digital portfolio to chart your progress. :eagerness:

I did this course quite a few years ago amongst a few others.
It is all online and the idea is that you are taught a single photography concept each week.
Learning is a mixture of videos and material.
you are then set an assignment each week.
you upload your two best photos alongside the other team members where you get to understand how other people interpreted the task.
finally, the teacher then critiques your pics and provides feedback so you can learn.

That's a nice shot Anthony. Such pretty colours! We use to go out to Uluru for work occasionally and I did a helicopter flight over them. They're pretty amazing.

Thanks Andrea. From where i was it was actually difficult to get a non-blurry shot. I was on the viewing platform with people walking and as you can see it was a 13second exposure. Many attempts.

Hi @Dove here are a couple of Pics that will hopefully help with your question from the waterfall comp thread they are only of the tap running but hopefully it will produce a similar effect as if of a waterfall .....(sort of ) both photos are shot with the tap running at the same speed and the same distance away


This one is with an aperture setting of f11 and a shutter speed of 1/50th of a second so if gives the effect of the water being slightly blurred

This second one is shot at f3.3 with a shutter speed of 1/1600th of a second so in effect it stops the water

f22 4.5sec with a neutral density 4 filter one of the uses of an ND filter is it cuts down the amount of light through the lens allowing you to get motion blur in brighter light conditions

My "Goanna In The Garden" purely accidental and the Goanna is a piece of drift wood I recovered.
I have no idea the settings as it was on auto.

This is one I took on a recent trip to Daylesford in Vic. It was the Luna eclipse or blood moon.
I took around 150 shots then sorted them out to these and put them together in Photoshop CS6.
The eclipse starts on the right hand side..
