Parents live at Tewantin so I am almost a local. More than happy to come up, design and assist in the firepit build. Send me some photos and what you like in terms of colours, shape, expectations, stone, timber etc and I'll add ideas. More than happy to help @Drover just say the word!

And seriously...the legs...... I have seen worse...... oh...just checked the photo....you have a point.....

got to love them legs................... (really.........?????)

just out of curiosity....

how deep is the pit
(I am thinking every second use having to empty the ashes....?)

I know when we were at SX, the 2/3 44gal drum was emptied twice from the fires every night.......

Actually looking out the van window into our builders messy yard, I think a fire pit would either burn the paint off the fence or scorch the brick work on the house and move it away then the van gets scorched or torched, this place is damn small, shed takes up a lot of room .............may have to forego the pit and just set one up on the beach when needed.

Ahhhhh.....the cost of relocation!

We've got a portable foldable fire thingy for travelling and I notice Stratco have lots of similar options available at the moment. I only mention it as they were advertised in the weekend papers but not sure if you get the papers, in between other things that take up fishing time.

Not carrying anything at the moment!

The stuff that came out of the van has been severely culled. Only one binoculars (small) and I can confirm the fire pit weighs 1.2kilos. It's very small but cheerful!

We always weigh more when we leave home but drink it along the way...rapidly if weight is an issue.

At least we don't get weighed down by too many fish.

pit is around 400mm deep @bigcol and the base is stone so the idea is that once everything is burnt it can either be moved into the garden nearby as compost/waste or washed through the stone into the soil. We will se how that pans out. if it doesn't work I plan to concrete the base to be able to shovel the waste out.
