I have access to borrow a vehicle but after a life time of not paying for fuel I'm not sure I know how to hand over cash at the bowser.....

TOWING RATIO REQUIREMENT
The loaded mass of the trailer must not exceed
the lesser of:
Rated capacity of the towbar and tow coupling.
Maximum towing capacity of the vehicle.
Maximum carrying capacity of the trailer.
Maximum rated carrying capacity of the tyres.

______

Judging by that statement if the GTM is higher than the capacity of the tow bar no dice...

One would assume this is why Jayco has removed the Tare weight from there plates to conform to this type of ruling.

As in you need to make sure your vehicle can tow the ATM + GTM of the trailer not the tare weight.

Hope this makes sense....

From my reading of this "Requirment" you are actually ok. This states that the loaded mass of the trailer must not exceed the lesser of. The four items are numbers that can vary depending on tow vehicle and van. You can split this into 4 requirements and you have to meet all of them, and not that this applies to the weight of the van not what the vehicle can tow.

Do not exceed towbar and tow coupling.
Do not exceed tow capacity of the vehicle
Do not exceed carrying capacity of the van
Do not exceed carrying capacity of the tyres

Using SA rules the other one (as mentioned) is Do not exceed 750kg unbraked, and above 2.2t need brake away brakes.

If the van empty is less than 2t than the rule has not been broken. So you need to confirm all of these for the Kluger and van.

Is towbar and tow coupling rated to 2t or at least the weight of the van:encouragement:
Is the van less than 2t (get a weigh-bridge certificate):encouragement:
If the van is empty you do not exceed its carrying capacity (unless Jayco got it wrong and stamped it less than what it weighs):encouragement:
Make sure the tyres are rated to carry the load (Note this is associated with individual wheels and axles) so ball weight can not cause rear tyres to be overloaded. Applies to caravan and vehicle tyres.:encouragement:
You must have the van braked by the car using an electric brake controller, I do not know the rules on this but if not law it is highly recommended that you have manual control in the vehicle as well as via brakes.:encouragement:

Good Luck with the transport.

Too close to the mark 17-56-2 OB on current spec tare/empty weight 1925kg ball 177kg these are factory standard figures without options fitted. what is the max tow ball weight allowable on the Kluger 150kg or 200kg?
The other thing is what is the allowable Gross Combined mass of the Kluger, that's car/van together, I'm guessing it only around the 4 ton mark.

I think with the extras it's going to push it over or be in a bees you know what close to it... Add extended draw bar, another 2x120w solar panels (additional to the ones standard) plus picnic tables outside shower shelves to robe etc etc and surely I'm gone!!!!
