Just realised that I hadn't posted an update to the problem described in this thread - sorry!
After we did our first proper long distance trip with the caravan (Kalbarri, WA), we notched up the required 1,000 km and duly got the van checked in for its first service in November. We had listed a few issues in the to-do list for Jayco to sort out, but the main one was the solar panel problem.
The report back indicated that the solar panel was only half wired up! The dealer duly got that all sorted in the service so I'm quite happy with that. Was just quite surprised though that something like that missed their QA checks!
