Hi @Bellbirdweb,
Still digging to find more info on this, haven't given up yet....
Have a read of this link, in particular point 10 of the " important things you should know"

http://www.wirelesscommunications.com.au/pdfs/TMS_Customer_Pricing_Brochure__300305.pdf

It may just be possible....fingers crossed. Pick up the Iridium tomorrow, so will know for sure soon.

@Holden_man, point 10 says if you have a Telstra Satellite SIM card, and put it in a GSM handset, you will be charged at satellite rates.

I'm still skeptical about putting a standard SIM into a satellite phone, but as I say, interested to see :)

ahh yes my skeptical friend :), but the last part of Point 10 says this...

If an “04” GSM SIM card with International Roaming capabilities is used in a Telstra Mobile Satellite handset to make or receive calls using Telstra Mobile Satellite, higher call charges to those in this table will apply and customers will also be charged for receiving calls using Telstra Mobile Satellite.

the guy from Ebay with the Iridium did the dirty on my, agree to a price and arranged pickup today, then sold it to someone else, so no Sat phone yet.

That was a good price for a 9555.

I paid $650 for a new Isaphone Pro

I see some negative feedback being lefted right there

It does look from that wording that it will work, you just pay the higher rate when using in the Iridium phone.

Probably not a bad option, just need to switch the SIM in and out of the phone, but no need to have a specific plan to keep it alive.

I actually did exactly the same within with my old Telit 550 Globalstar phone.

It was actually very smart, and if GSM was available, the phone used GSM, and if not it used satellite.

I used the SIM in my normal phone most of the time but changed it over when travveling.

Unfortunately Globalstar fell out of the sky :)
