Has anyone come across any companies providing roadside assistance for both their vehicle and van?

Have come across a few but they limit the van capacity to 2 tonne, so trying to work out if there are any out there that people have used that cover both with higher limits?

Same here.

We had to use it last year as we needed towing / carrying...both car and van for about 150 kms...and they were great. One flat bed for car and another towed the van. They arranged vehicle repair, caravan park and put the van into a tight spot for us.

They kept in touch and sorted out the claim via RACQ.

I was impressed....that was on the ultimate coverage but we must have been very close to the 2 ton limit.

Looks like I will need to source this from the east coast as the local RACWA don't have a tow pack, their top of the range only have a 2 tonne limit of the van, will call them to make sure but will have a look more into the ones above.

I've got RACQ Ultimate care here in Qld. It was changed some time ago to cater for the likes of us who have larger vans.

The limitation is this: RACQ Ultimate: Caravans or Trailers that exceed 9.7 metres (32 feet) in length (including drawbar), 2.3 metres (7.5 feet) in width or 4 tonnes GVM.

Yep but they have limits and my van is outside the limits from memory, and the extra premium on top to cover the van is ridiculous

NRMA's Premium Care
  • Coverage for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes including 4WDs, SUVs, minivans, utes, large pick-ups and additional trailers such as caravans, boats, horse floats and others up to 2 tonnes
Their Premium Plus
  • Coverage for vehicles up to 10 tonnes including 4WDs, SUVs, minivans, utes, large pick-ups and trailers such as caravans, boats, horse floats and more
Premium care is $254, Premium Plus is $383, so to get the cover for the larger vans (no other benefit that I could see) is $129 per year more.

I reckon it's worth it!

The total bill for our car and van was well over $1000. We paid it because the paperwork was handled by RACV and they were contacted by Nissan.

We then contacted RACQ and were repaid immediately, including accommodation costs.

Our only regret was that we were entitled to motel hotel accommodation and we were stuck in a caravan park but we were happy with that.

And.....if the car was a real problem they were going to fly us home and freight the van home for us.

And that was for a car that had done less than 10,000 kms and a 3 month old van.

We are really glad we didn't wing it

Whilst at the Perth Caravan and Camping show yesterday I went to the RACWA stand and asked about their cover for Roadside Assistance. Unfortunately they didn't really know what the limits were, however they were very good in taking down my number and were going to get back to me to advise. They were surprised that I mentioned there limits for their top cover "Ultimate Plus" was on 2 Tonne for a van and thought they would be the same as their counterparts in other states (RACV and RACQ etc)

Will post an update once they get back to me, maybe something they will revisit and either provide another level if cover or increase the exisiting limits higher than 2 tonne.

Good luck with it.

I just remembered, in our situation, we contacted Nissan Roadside Assist as they requested when we reported a possible problem. They contacted RACV who then called us to check the specs on the van.

At no stage did they ask about weight, just model and length.

As said, we'd have been pushing the two tonne limit, if they'd asked.

You must have spoken to the same guy I did (But before me!) Told me someone else asked (and mentioned) the same but didn't take a number. Interested to his reply if you get one!
