I thought they were set by the caravan noddies group CCMA or something. You'd be correct they'd only be guidelines but often lazy beuracrats will just copy and plagerise somemthing from an asscociations than create something themselves keeps em in a job without actually having to do anything.

So if that's the case iam just going to do twin 100mm PVC pipe tanks like I originally considered.

Anyway not to many genius out there can work out the capacity of a cylinder in there head (me included ) so I'll just say it's 62.35 liters :D

Local councils usually set the rules so there is no standard, you will find that the closer you are to town, even in town, the rules are tighter and some places won't allow external catchment eg: buckets etc and you must have a toilet onboard..............................there are even places that if you don't have the CCMA blessing to leave no trace you aren't allowed.....................bit too regimented for me plus another mob that wants money.

While the horny argument of chemicals is a load of BS they need to have some sort of regs as there a so many ignorant/selfish/stupid people on the road nowadays they just dump it on the ground so by the time the next person comes along it is a bog, even seen the DH's not bother with the sullage drain in the van park just let it flow under your van...............

I have 2 x 150mm pipes under Big Mal all drains run into it all the time, stops back up into shower and allows cleaning easily the 2 lengths connected with T piece and it holds 90lts..........................could have got a bit more but the step gets in the way.

Yep. Totally agree.

My philosophy is to contain it, whichever way ...bucket, hose to vegetation (maybe), external tank if required, onboard tank...I move on.

What I can't agree with is the hose strung out on soil or gravel as it just makes it messy for everyone else.

Anyway, it's an old chestnut and we've all contributed to the chemicals debate, and so on so.......

And I'm happy with my compromise and will use it only if necessary!

Yep, actually I'm over all the regs and other stuff that is brought in because of inconsiderate mongrels, spent most of my working life governed by some sort of regulation, time frame and other annoying things devised by chair pushes, too many signs usually means it's a crap place to stay anyway...............I just apply Common Dog and hang the rest..........................

Interesting read but doesn't add anything more to our discussion but confirms what we thought.

Minimise water use
Clean off stuff in rubbish rather than in grey water
Use dump points
Grey water becomes black water if not disposed of quickly
And...it's local regulations...and common sense which determine method of disposal.

And, there are more travelling these days, so it's now an issue where it wasn't before, so be responsible.

Unfortunately it may be preaching to the converted....but, if it raises awareness in those not aware, then great!

Thanks for posting the link.

I hadn't come across this group before.

Hey @achjimmy !

I've been checking out the other articles and the one on caravan suspension is informative. Others also.

Is there an app for the magazine? I couldn't find one.

I think its all via online. The CMCA which is pushing this a lot is for campervans/motorhomes which normally have grey tanks, they want parks that are Leave No Trace I can understand this to a point. Although as they want you to join to get a sticker there is a side of me which sees this as a $ scheme as well. Also have parks made for their members only and a push to go motorhome instead of van.
As it mentions in one sentence caravans harder to add grey tanks too. Nothing about how to do it which ones to buy etc.

Still not overly clear really if your free camping at a spot you obey the rules set there. So having something to at least take grey water away if asked I think is wise.

I also had a quick look at the latest online mag and I like how Wikicamps does not make must use apps some new one does. Remember these free mags are sometimes cash for comment. So I take everything with a pinch of salt in reviews and must have stuff.

It's part of the pat callinan group. They do a few mags they have a very clever advertising system and seem to be the future over print mags. I've found the articles less bias than his tv show and better than that trash from EMG group. If you get unsealed as well they do tend to share the articles around. But hey it's free and informative and zillion times better than anything else that comes into the inbox

I scan the trip reports out of the EMG ones and keep them as pdfs for later reference. The rest of the mag gets binned after a read - some are worse than others for bias. I think Mr 4x4 is probably the worse for paid editorials and product 'reviews', but I have actually kept all his mags on the shelf unlike EMG. Take out the cash for comments and they seem the best overall. (combined with Unsealed and RV daily - which are also saved on pc for offline referral later)
No wonder I get no real work done.

Reading and dreaming are both addictive. It's amazing how often we refer to articles, reports etc in the hope that the memory just might get a nudge.

If the info is good to start with, that helps.

I've now taken to keeping a file with lists of places recommended with as much detail as I can cope with but I have to remind myself where the recommendation came from. I then refer to it when planning and travelling.

Just as bad as trying to get a new van set up to cover all your requirements, some of which are needs, others depend on the tradeoffs for weight, cost and comfort.

@Dobbie, many moons ago I used to keep the reports of places that I'd like to see but found they just gather dust and never get looked at,now I just put a favourite icon on the place in WikiCamps and it doesn't gather dust or get left behind..........but then we don't plan things just nut out a rough trip and go with the flow...................................................................QUESTION : How did we get here !!!!!!!! on Portable Grey Water tank topic.............I popped the caps off my tanks the other day, it was not nice, very vomitty, best to clean out tank after the washing machine has had a run............

Yuk!

:bi_polo:

A horrible job.

Agree with the Wiki favourite approach . ..we do the same...but the file I keep is just a list on my ipad with comments.

Eg the best free camps we've found and used a few times we discovered without wiki ...they appeared there but were difficult to specifically identify. along the Murray for example.

....and one of them is your Red Rock....still haven't been there but your wrap of the place is duly noted.
