The plan so far is to start out at Lake Bonney for their bonfire night. Then head up the river into Vic for free camping stays. No real plans on where we will get maybe Echuca, but who knows if we fall in love with a spot we might just not move on.

Any suggestions on free camp sites you have used would be great. We Camps 6 but nothing beats advice from someone who has been there. Oh and it needs to be pet friendly our Bullmastiff is coming with us.

Just spent a few days Echuca area and along to Cootamundra. The Lions park at Howlong was excellent as a free camp spot. Quiet and clean and right on the Murray.

We are heading to Echuca on Wed. Will stay in caravan parks as we have had a lot of rain and the Camps book show most of the free camp site along the Murray as dry road only. When wet 4wd only. The StarCraft is a lot heavier than our Discovery so will be conservative on this our first trip. Not sure how our AWD Territory would handle muddy roads and 2 tonne of StarCraft.

If you make it as far as Echuca check out Wills Bend which is at the end of O'Dwer Rd off the Murray Valley Highway just before you hit Echuca. Christies Beach is just upstream of Echuca as well, they are the better known camps but there are plenty of spots dotted all along the river. Gunbower Island is also good about 50 km west of Echuca. Head down Headworks Rd at Torumbarry, camps all along the river down there!
