I know some you are more tech savvy than me.

I bought one of the Edup wifi dongles, thinking I'd be able to understand how to set it up.

Wrong!

As I understand it, you can use it to store some stuff (whatever's relevant) and hook it up to power source via usb? Then, if you set it up, it's possible to access that same stuff via wifi from either iPad or android device?

My problem is that I can't set it up. Chinese instruction say to link to computer and it will be recognised...not mine. They also say that iPad will "see" it via the app.....not mine.

Does anyone who knows what they are doing have any suggestions?

I want to use it to store, in one location, docs, music, photos, ebooks etc and be able to access that one location via our multiple devices.

And I want to avoid having multiple storage for when we are away...the aim was to keep it simple.

Maybe it won't work that way and I'll just chuck it.

No idea on that one. I bought the seagate wireless plus . It is battery operated and also 240V. Have only tried it at home on my iPad and it worked. Haven't field tested it yet.

Did you buy it from ebay? I would personally buy from a Telstra store if you aren't very tech savvy as then they can help you set it up. It sounds like it is supposed to work similar to Cloud.

I Google everything but otherwise get my husband to deal with it as he is the computer geek. Hope you sort it out!

Thanks.
I suspect it's a driver problem but, like what seemed a good idea at the time to make life simpler, it only causes frustration and the opposite to simple.

It will get one final chance to redeem itself then get the ultimate chop.

Life's too short for this.

The annoying thing is that I've always worked with computers and what used to be a challenge to overcome is now a pain in the bum.

As bigCol says... Patience and inclination both lacking.

Thanks for that.

Glad to know others have same issues.

I'll need a drink before I even approach the thing again.

Maybe the Sanyo(?) thingy ....see how technical I've become?......will be the answer but I don't want the Edup to win.

Think I'll concede tomorrow.

Whoops !

It's a Seagate wireless hard drive thingy....that I was considering initially but I have many spare hard drives and usbs so my tight fittedness sent me down the route of the Edup.

In principal it should work...in practice....I'll update you if and when I progress.

:second:Thanks!!

Just for my peace of mind, can I ask:

Did you download the apps to android and /or iPad first?
Did you then attach the Edup (with usb stick..mine is 16 gig) to your pc or Mac?
Did you then access the silly little cd and install windows client?
Did you then see the connection from pc to other device?

Mine stops there....

I'm very pleased there is at least one person whose managed it.

If they do I completely missed it!.

So does the Edup thingy atttach via USB port to the wifi modem?

Will I need an extra router to use it away from home?

Gawd. I'm so far out of the loop it's not funny.

Oops, no sorry, it must be part of your device. They plug it in to power it up. Does it come with this device to power it (the green one)?

No. Just the white dongle. I assumed the green thing was either a different model or maybe a hard drive.

I might post a reward for anyone who sorts me out.

Reward :). I'll stay out of your hair for a week.

After years of building and playing with computers now I try to leave the damn things alone as they suck up too much time... I started down the WiFi HDD to store stuff, at home and on road, went back to the small 1TB HDD 1 for movies and 1 for pics, with a big monster drive at Home as the master back up plug it into the devices, works out bloody quicker and way less agro than using bluetooth or WiFi connections, something always doesn't want to play.
Have about triple backup as a Seagate went troppo and took me ages to retrieve stuff, found if the drive comes with software, wipe it before using HD, safer that way..........
My friend Mr Google is my knowledge base now and I don't fix the rotten things anymore.

Have fun @Dobbie, it will probably start working and you won't have a clue how you did it...lol,lol.
