Some before and after shots of the TJM underbody guards consisting of sump, trans and transfer case guards..........

IMAG0194.jpgIMAG0196.jpgIMAG0198.jpgIMAG0199.jpgIMAG0201.jpgIMAG0204.jpgIMAG0207.jpgIMAG0208.jpgIMAG0211.jpg

Note the large tapered washers for the exposed bolt heads, a great idea that will prevent the bolt heads from getting damaged when they have been dragged over something.

And some other goodies have arrived........

IMAG0213.jpgIMAG0216.jpg

And it has been confirmed that I won't see the TJM Bullbar before Xmas :(
Also placed an order today for an EGR Premium canopy, one lift and one slide window, which also probably won't arrive before Xmas :(

Nice Millsy, if you don't mind me asking I have a few questions

What was the cost of the TJM underbody guards? PM if you like.
Also do they need to be removed to drop the oils and what size plate do they use?

What suspension combo did you get gas or foam cell and what spring rates did you opt for.

CD, you all ready thinking of the mods to the coming BT50 are you. LOL.
Must say that under body does look well protected, great investment there Millsy.
Q; Do Mazda install the fuel tank protector along with the rear diff pinion cowl standard or were they part of the under body protection kit? Cheers Pace.

Hi Cruza

Cost for the Underbody kit was $820 inc freight, however they are available as seperate pieces if you don't want all 4 guards. Honestly I didn't look closely to see if they would have to be removed for oil changes, I just assumed they would! I'll have a closer look and let you know. Diesel oil always makes a mess (or maybe I do!) so I like to wash down/ degrease the area after an oil and filter change anyway.

They are made from 3mm plate, and feel super solid, certainly put the flimsy factory ones to shame.

I went for the full foam cell kit, Bar/winch rated front springs and 300kg constant rear springs. I'll install it this week, but the canopy/winch/bar/drawers won't go in til early in the new year, so it will pretty stiff til it gets some weight on it I would imagine! Whichever kit you go for, make sure it includes the driveline spacer, apparently the BT/Ranger can have some drivetrain vibration issues if this isn't done when lifted.

Hi Pace

The fuel tank protector is standard Mazda, but it is only plastic. I may look into a steel version. The diff pinion cowl I believe may be some form of anti vibration/harmonics device, looking at it briefly yesterday I notice it had a sticker on it with a frequency, i think 110hz? I'll have a closer look.

Milsy,

The Tough Dog kit is the way to go, the full kit should come with the spacer and it is recommended by TD.

On another note, I was told to put off the lift until I had the bar and winch added to the front. Apparently there can be an increase of 125mm to the front without this extra weight.
I was told this by the TD people at Penrith caravan show, not sure how true it is, just thought I would mention it.

Thanks Millsy, I would remove them too as I hate the mess it could leave but I thought I would see if it possible.

I'm not sure if you have but I would also put some anti seize on the threads of the bash plates to make removal easier down the track.

Hi Mick

Yes, the spacer comes with the Tough Dog kit, I was more making the point for others if they choose a different brand of suspension. Thanks for the heads up on the lift without the bar and so forth fitted, I might call the supplier and confirm.

Cheers

And, surprisingly, the canopy arrived today. I wasn't expecting it until after Xmas. Fitted pics to follow in the next couple of days.

Very nice Millsy :thumb:

Are you still fitting draws in the rear and will your fridge sit on top? If so are you getting a drop down fridge slide?

Thanks guys.

CD, will still be fitting drawers. Have to do some measuring to see what is going to work though. Toying with the idea of just a single drawer on one side and fridge slide on the other. The fridge we have is a Primus Mammoth 65 litre, so its pretty large. Also have to be able to get a 50kg dog in there somewhere! If we do end up going full width drawers a drop down fridge slide will be compulsory, just so the missus can see in the fridge!

They do work well but as you mentioned it might be a tight fit for the draws with a fridge on top to clear the canopy. It will be good to see what you decide.

What kind of dog is it :peep:

Fitted Barrys canopy today after work........made for quite the long day; left home at 6 this morning and just got home. A cold Boags premium barely touched the sides

Anyway, a couple of pics........

IMAG0240.jpgIMAG0242.jpg

CD, initial impressions are we will definately be running a one drawer arrangement. Yet to run the tape over it, but I reckon double drawers with the fridge on top will make access to the fridge tricky.

And Ellie is a Mastiff x German Short Haired Pointer. She is a beautiful dog, very placid, well behaved and well trained, and a good guard dog as well!

Cheers

Millsy, Barry is certainly looking good.

That canopy sits nicely on the back.

How did you go with the suspension? will you wait until the bar arrives, or put it in now?

Kepp the pictures coming.

Hey Mick, thanks for the kind words.

Had a quick chat with the suppliers regarding the suspension being fitted without the extra weight. They suggested that it would be ok in the interim but probably pretty uncomfortable, and if it was just going to be a few days or so it would be ok, but if I was going to be waiting a few weeks they recommended holding off. Thinking about it, holding off is the wise move, considering I don't have a firm date on bullbar delivery.

Thats ok though, now that the canopy is on I can focus on doing the drawers, dual battery, rear work lights etc etc until the bar arrives.

Pics of more goodies to come tomorrow ;)

Cheers
