well we finally took our expanda on a long deserved holliday.
we bought a 16/49/3 for the shower/toilet because we didnt want to spend $30-$40 per day for a toilet/shower.
i bought camps 6 for the gps ($20 and $10 goes to rfds)and thought we would try it out.
we had no real plans just 8 days to go where we please
we were going to head to adelaide along the great ocean road but the weather wasnt looking good so decided to head north.
we left home saturday arvo after i wired up the onboard battery via anderson plug and rewired the fridge to the battery.
got to echuce around 3pm and checked out camps6 and showed a spot about 5ks out of town.
the spot is nothing special just a big car park of the road with no facilitys just some shady trees but good enough for a sleep.
we left the van conected put the grand final on the tv sat back and had a couple of drinks and watched the maggies go down.
next morning we pack up head into echuca and restock some supplies.we didnt look around town were from bendigo so weve done all that 100s of times.
next stop was tocumwall checked out the gps and found tocumwal beach listed.wow what a great spot.
we camped right next to the beach there was water at most camp spots along the fence line plenty of firewood cut and waiting toilets and cold showers.
$5 per adult per night no charge for children.we decided to stay 2 days there.a walk into town and look around nice place.drove to cobram for some shopping .
while we were there we got talking to the peple in the next camp spot with a 10 month old swan wow did they have everything from a hot water system like the kind you have at home
sat dish so they could watch austar with there box the brang and heaps and heaps of stuff.they said they were thinking about getting an expanda but went the way of the swan because they thought it would be easier lighter smaller etc.
it took the 5 hours to set up (i dont miss the setting up part we had an eagle)they checked ours out after watching us set up in no time and said when they get back there trading the swan for an expanda.
tuesday morning the diamond(10 yo daughter )wantd to know if we were near yarawonga we said yes we will head there next.
got there and once again checked camps6 and found a spot about 5ks from mulwala.giffins reserve.top little free spot right on the lake.no facillitys but great spot to fish(didnt get any)and plenty of fire wood around.
next morning we had to head to albury./wadonga to sort out a water problem(see previous post)that arvo we found a camp spot at lake hume ebden reserve.another great free spot right on the lake.
toilets plenty of shade and if you look around enough fire wood for the night.tried fishing and again no good.there was also an older expanda there(the only other expanda we seen).will be going back there
next day were heading over bright way.not much free canping wise so we ended up at nug nug camp ground.about 12ks from myrtleford.this was the best spot so far.new toilet blocks. power. firewood anywhere you went and right on the nug nug creek(buffalo river 500 metres).we stayed there 2 nights.$5 per adult per night $1 children and if your using power $5 extra per day.tried fishing again and again no luck.all fish must be extinct(or were bad fishers)this is another spot we will go back to just to sit in the river when its hot(and maybe do some fishing).we done a dat trip into bright and surounding areas.wow its so nice over that way.we had our onlt takeaway food(sort of)counter meal at the buffalo hotel in myrtleford about $9 each.couldnt eat it all.saturday morning time to head home in time to watch bathurst(one thing we never miss)we got home just in time to watch the bottom 7 shoot out.
its funny when we were home sat night we all looked at each other and said wde want a fire and some quiet.(we live on a main road)a few things we learnet while away.
(1)we love the expanda everything we wanted and more
(2)the webber q makes the best roasts while your camping.
(3)nothing like a fire and a few drinks away from home.
(4)the people you meet while your camping.
(5)the storys diamond is still talking about.
(6)heaps more.
(7)and did i mention how good expands are.
cheers jim/tab and diamond

Jim and Tab, this is exactly what we want to do when we get ourselves sorted. As much as possible free camp or a minimal charge/fee camping as possible.

I will definately be buying the Camps 6 book, it will probably become the new bible.

Enjoy it out there, it is a wonderful country.

Good little trip there guys.
Just for some info, the free camp you mentioned just out of Mulwala is known as Kyffins reserve, it is a very popular spot during the summer school holidays. I've seen people stay there for a month or more. There is plenty of room too.

Next door to the reserve is Denison County Caravan Park, I have a place in there. Unfortunately the park is full of permanents only, no tourist sites available.

Cheers,
Matty
