when I do get a bit more confidence / experience and decide to up the anti to a two week trip. would 2 week be enough to do the east coast say from Melbourne to Baryon bay and back?
We flew to Cairns and drove back in a motorhome to Brisbane taking 8 days with 2 kids (3 and 7yrs old) to give you an idea as Brisbane to Melbourne is same distance (first night was spent in Cairns so 7 days travelling time). We stayed at a new park every night and tried to keep the driving distance low as kids don't tolerate long drives very well. Aimed for 3.5 hours or less (with one big drive that was unavoidable of about 5hrs or so which took us all day with the breaks for the kids in between).

Thanks for pics, great looking van, is what we are considering buying. And welcome!

hey @sierramason welcome and thanks for the pics. I saw your post regarding a two week trip and guessed you meant Byron Bay. In all honesty the place is extremely overated for what it is and the NSW north Coast has some much more amazing places that are less of a trip. I did I run a few years ago and I will find the link and post it here for you. I personally would recommend places like (in order of distance from Victoria) Kiama, Lane Cove, Nelson Bay, Forster area, Sawtell and Yamba. To me all of these are head and shoulders above Byron which I and a lot of others (I hope) think is a drug and alcohol fuelled dump.
I will post the trip report links for you.

Ballina South is another park with its own beach access power nd you can have a fire

Pottsville very nice but hard to get a van onto sites particularly vans the size of ours

Anyway just a few ideas I am pretty sure Sawtell is in these somewhere but there are a number of NSW based members who have also provided excellent trip reports regarding the NSW north and South Coast.

Princess Crusty loooooves Byron Bay, but Im with you guys. Byron beaches are great, but theres just as good in the your list.

Your alternative list is straight off mine and Ill add Port Macquarie, Emerald Beach Nth of Coffs, North Haven, The Entrance and Toowoon Bay.

Thanks for the links definitely look into it. Other people have told me similar thinks about Byron. It's just one of those places that I have never been and have always wanted to go. The excuse of have a caravan now, was thinking there couldn't be a better time

Agree about Byron. Overrated, over used and expensive.

I'd add the little old park about 7 k south of Pottsville. Quiet, good size sites but no bells and whistles but can have fires.

And Bunjalung NP just out of Iluka. No powered sites but good facilities and the beaches and fishing are great.
