Just joined the forum... so here's a bit about us...

We've owned a 16.49.2 since 2009, when we got it new after owning a Finch and another smaller caravan before that. We've got 3 kids (8, 6 and 5) and have done several trips over the past 4 years. Our most recent trip was to Tassie for just over a month between Dec and Jan of this year. Costly exercise getting the van over there, but as we were visiting family for Christmas anyway, decided to go all out and stay for awhile to justify the expense.

Had a great time touring around Tassie, although we were only just a step ahead of the bushfires. We'd free-camped at Dunalley less than 2 days before much of the town was lost. Favourite location in Tassie was probably the Bay of Fires - the beaches are stunning and there's lots of free camp sites. The pic below is at Scamander one evening.

Other than Tassie, we've enjoyed time in Bright, Apollo Bay, Korumburra, Mansfield, King Valley, Mildura (Vic) plus another month in SA (Mt Gambier, Naracoorte, Adelaide, Barossa Valley, Burra, Berri)over the past couple of years. Later this year we're hopefully off to Corryong and then NSW Southern Highlands. So, we don't have a regular place we visit, but love to explore new places!

Home is eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Tow the van with a BA falcon wagon... hoping to upgrade this to a Ranger XLT 4x4 in the next couple of years... but that's a bit of a dream at the moment!

:welcome: dazjet! Glad you finally found us. Nice pic. Tassie is so RV friendly that it cushions the shock of paying the hefty ferry fare.

Welcome to the forum Dazjet,
Tassie sounds like a great trip! What do they charge to get an Expanda over there?

Hi Lara, it was around $2200 return on the boat, which included 5 people in overnight cabins. Cars alone are subsidised, but as soon as you add length to that it is a per metre calculation. Spending 34 days over there helped justify the expense, staying in cabins or motels would have cost a fortune in comparison. Such a great place to tour and easy on the fuel, as some days we traveled just 30 Kms between camp sites! Average was around 100 Kms.

Sounds like a great trip. You're right, hotels and motels would have cost that and then some, and you got to travel to some great spots, where I'm sure there wouldn't be a motel in sight. Well worth the money!
If they charge by the metre, then imagine what it would cost bigman0510 in his brand spanking new BaseStation!

Great into!
Sounds like you will have some valuable experiences to share with us all.
I wonder if you have done any mods to your van?
