@achjimmy I was a bit worried when we brought the Disco, we brought second hand with extra 3 years warranty included in the price.. Although touch wood only had general stuff apart from the air compressor which has the newer one which supposed to be a lot better.
Been a bit better on the $'s since we stopped going to a dealer. Air compressor was final deal breaker got it done almost 50% less then quoted by a LR specialist instead.
Although heard of a few lemons ours is late 2006 so they fixed some problems before ours :)
Every car has something we where looking at XC90's when we brought the Disco and does not take you long to see there is a standard problem with Auto's going...
Even the Mini I have its the face lift of the new BMW the late 2004's replaced the crap gearbox that kept going.
My friend has a Golf which limps back home now and then which pisses him off although in-laws have two which been fine.

Now with 4 kids we stuck 7 seaters....

The 200's don't drop a bit of oil they use it! And because they hold 11 litres and have a zillion dealers around (something never considered for "4x4 of the universe award" it doesn't mater :p

ha ha
Well.. i suppose if they need that many service centres so that you're never more than 15 minutes from an oil top up or other repair....:drum:

And its 8 times 4x4 of the universe award - get it right:cheer2:

Ask me sometime about my experience with a demo Disco when buying the last truck? Sat nav, windows and something else didn't work! Brand new $145k car ! After simply explaining it as a "low battery voltage problem" Then the stealer then says , " oh buy the way the price I gave you yesterday (last day of the month) for the SE has gone up by $10k" !!!"

I think the dealer might've been a bit of a tosser too!!
Unfortunately, the battery is a bit of a negative - its all too power hungry, and when the battery drops a little, nothing works, without warning. I've had the cranking battery replaced, but at least could start it on the secondary. In all seriousness, they need to install a second battery in factory like the LC200s need.

Yeah I can't see it being 500kg, but the RRSport did shed around 350kg.....

@Holden_man...you're getting confused with manufacturers again  That's LC200s that had the oil problem. D1 & D2 were just poor build quality overall :distrust: (unfortunately while Ford owned them I admit....) My d4 hasn't leaked a drop since getting it. :):):)
Better check your oil level in the D4 @straydingo maybe there's none left......all leaked out..:)

Nope, I've had one replacement battery, and the water leak from the one way vale on the rear window washer. (both warranty - battery came to me and installed within an hour of calling, so didn't need to find a dealer or nuthin' ) Everything else has been just dandy.
I did once have a message come up on the screen saving the left rear door wasn't closed properly tho, (it seems one of the kids didn't close it right) and I've got a warning at the moment to tell me to top up my windscreen washer bottle. :)
@Holden_man...no need waste my valuable time to check, or risk getting my office worker hands smudged with a drop of oil. The dash will advise if necessary and tell me how many ml to fill it with

Yeah the 200 has a bonnet alarm. Iam told its to stop Disco owners ( more directly SD) from stealing our batteries and draining our oil to keep the oil consumption myth going!

Oh he was a tosser all right, gold plated one.

The 200 has two batteries but doesn't need em. I have no idea why they fit two other than for our convienence! Mines been running of the single original L/H battery since I isolated it at 1,500kms and the engel has ran for up to 3 days at a time off the original Toyota R/H battery. Will throw an optima in when it dies but guys on lcool have reported 5 + years of a single OEM battery.

.

If any consolation the Toyota sales I spoke to were tossers also.

Went into the yard and was looking at the 200vx there. Saleman cam out and offered to help. I asked for a test drive of a LC200.
Sale: "Nope can't do that sorry"
Me: "Why not?"
Sales "no vehicles available - these are all sales vehicles not for test drive."
He lead me over to the manager and asked when we'd have a 200 available to drive.
Manager: "why do you want to take one for a test drive?"
Me: "huh??....Ahhh, I'm thinking of buying one...."
Manager: "So just buy it. You don't need to test drive one. They're the best"
Me: "Ahhh, I'd still like to drive one first thanks"
Manager "It will just confirm that you want it though. So lets get the paper work started now, and we'll see what deal we can do for you"
(He was absolutely dead serious - why was I wasting his valuable time with wanting a test drive)

Left there and went to another yard.
Me; "I'd like to take a LC200 VX or Altitute for a drive please"
Sales "Sorry, none available at the moment." Checks computer. "Toyota Aust doesn't have any in Vic for test drives. But my manager has one, we can take that if you like"
Manager not in, so will need to call me back. Arranges it and calls me a few days later. I go on over......its a GL.
Sales: "Oh, its exactly the same. You don't need to drive a VX to know the difference..."

On another occasion, another dealer, we were looking at A rav4 for the missus. Only seats 5, and the sales person must be in the vehicle, so with a family of 5 we had to take two separate test drives. While the missus is out, I tried to speak with another sales assistant. I asked if I could get one of the brochures and the pricing of the GX and GXl models while I wait (no one else in yard/showroom). Outright refused to help me as the sale belonged to the other sales person currently doing a test drive. Would not even open the drawer next to them to hand me the Specs/Brochure booklet thing. Got a Subaru instead....

And then there was the time I took a Hilux for a test Drive.....where I was only allowed to drive a defined circuit of approx 2.2km, turning left at each major intersection, until the loop was done and back at the yard.....

Toyota dealers all very odd people

On yeah Toyota dealers generally the most arrogant by a country mile. I found it hard to test drive a 200 aswell. They don't seem to stock them. I don't bother with general sales people anymore. After getting screwed around last time I just rang a couple of dealers and spoke with the fleet people (no Iam not fleet) but there business like and no BS . told them what I wanted and gave indication of what I'd pay if they'd get there and done. 3 mins on phone email offer 30mins later contracts signed 30mins after that. All without leaving my house. Never met the dealer, picked up the car 4mths later (1st time in dealership, gone in 45mins and got it for a fantastic price (cheaper than some paid for GXL and certainly Altitudes) . Only way to buy IMO, no what you want and then don't even walk in the door

Best thing to do is book a test drive through the Toyota website , they then send you to a stealer. No grantee they have a car but you cabin whinge like $&@/ when they don't and makes some feel better about walking from that dealership without buying. Ofcourse the beauty of buying a Toyota is there is ten gazillion dealerships in a handy area to find a car.

My wife refuses to be with me when Iam "negotiating" :p I tend to channel all the buyers that screw me for the other 364 days of the year !

while we complaining about salesman.. When we looked at the Land Rover we also looked at the Territory.
So at Ford and they had a demo one we took for a drive. After drive checked it had no side airbags, so said sorry have kids will pass on it. He then went on side airbags are useless and just a fad why would you pass on a car just for them.
Yes love car salesman. We normally buy demo or a few years old after first hit on depreciation.
