I think putting it smack bang in the middle is just plain weird. I'm no prude but do like my privacy. Can't imagine using the toilet or shower and having the husband and kids just casually walking through to the bedroom or vice versa like its a hallway. And trust me, when my husband uses the toilet, I ain't going through there for at least an hour.
And what happens if you have visitors and someone's in the bedroom? Do you lock that person in the bedroom or kick them out to the kitchen so your visitor can use the bathroom?
Just doesn't make sense........

Our "18" has the toilet and shower opposite the wardrobe. Properly maintained and used, it never, ever smells.
Do find pop-tops with the toilet right next to the kitchen bench a bit disconcerting though.:mmph:
