the smelling fridge is a design flaw. if you take out the microwave, you will see at the very front corners on the shelf where the microwave sits on. jayco in there wisdom have cut the corners of the shelf out. so this now exposes the back of the fridge and exhaust to the inside of the van. depending on the wind direction, the external ventilation now comes inside the van. jayco fixed mine with expandable foam in the corners and said no one ever complains about this. but really this can be very harmful.

Hi all,

So the next mod I have tackled is the replacement of the clear hoses under the van. In looking at this I was not happy with the high pressure layout. In particular the use of bend radius (and not using elbows) going into the floor penetrations. So I bought some JG connectors and some hose and needed to modify them first. Supprisingly easy to work with and other than one connector which was not pushed in all connections sealed first time.

Then it was onto the original job to replace the clear. I used drinking water hose (white inside with blue stripe) and also added 2 taps per water tank so that I can choose which tank is used for preasure pump and hand pump. For the filler hoses I went for 25mm drinking water hose. After looking at the clear ones I was told to get the right ones (so I did).

If I had the time I must admit that I would rip all of the water hoses out and start from scratch. Although I fixed up the bends etc it is still a mess associated with the positioning of the floor penetrations and overall running of the hoses.

So all went well, until it came time to test the hand pump. This did not go well. When pumping the water up it felt like I was creating a vacuum and that the handle was on a spring. So after many removals and installations and trying the pump in buckets of water in and out of the caravan it came down to an elbow joiner that was blocked. Some of the plastic molding was causing it to block. It went in the bin and a new elbow used and the pump was working.

This then leads to the next problem. The hand pump is leaking at the spout. There are two seals (top and bottom) that allow the spout to rotate, similiar to a mixer tap. Simple get replacement seals. Went to the caravan place (Jayco agent) and guess what I get informed that they do not do spares but I can have a new pump for $75. I think not. Off to the plumbing supplies and although I had the seals and measurements they could not help, unless I provided the make and model. So the next place was CBC bearings and some o-rings. Went home and installed the o-rings and added some food grade grease and it seems to have sealed the spout.

So if anyone knows where you can get the hand pump seals from I would be happy to know, else the o-rings will stay.

Cheers
Steve

Our van is a 2008 model and we have a Fynspray tap in it - ordered the washers through Whitworth Marine - about $6 for the washer kit and $15.95 delivery!!!! Worked well though and the only place in Oz that I could find parts. Hopefully you have a store near you! I figured by the time you add petrol, time and east link tag tolls we were cheaper having them sent (plus you get the current catalogue!). When we realised our tap wasn't working, we replaced it with a cheapy and I broke it in 5 minutes (the Fynspray outlet can turn, the cheap one couldn't !!!)

Soon off on 3 weeks holidays so will see if all works. @dagree if the o-rings are good I am not going to change them. @jacbaz the pump I have is a Coast Chrome Hand Pump. I have not looked for spares but a quick search on line did not reveal any kits or spares for this model. The plumbing supplies wanted to know the model as it would be similiar to mixer tap seals, but I do not think they would have them specifically for that pump.

I just took the stuffed O rings and got replacements the same size from a plumbing shop. I also moved the pump from inside to outside and it was a vast improvement on the plumbing layout, removed many possible leaks from inside as well.

@Drover are you talking the electric pump or hand pump. We have both, hot and cold preasure from electric pump or external connection and hand pump from tanks only for drinking. In general we care drinking water in tanks and use the hand pump to fill drink bottles and jub, and use the external connection for hot and cold water for washing dishes etc.

I am talking about replacing the seals in the hand pump, which are not o-rings. But in my case they are now.

The O rings I meant were in my hand pump and thanks to Mr Google mine must be a Coast one as well and it has 2 big O rings in the swivel point, I also went to a Jayco dealer and found no spares for it.............The pump I moved was the electric job it was inside, info on my page. We fill the tanks from home as we only have tank water but with just 2 of us it lasts. If we have mains connected we do the same or just have a slab of bottled water, for $7 it's just too easy.

@Drover Makes me wonder why the caravan place does not suggest the o-ring replacement option. They are slowly loosing my confidence. I would not be the only one that replaces these.
