Firstly i would like to warn everyone that cutting gas bottles can be dangerous and i don`t take any responsibility for anyone harming themselves.
I like the ozpig type heaters but i couldn`t afford to buy one and i had a lot of bits in the shed so i thought i would give it a crack.
First up was to make the bottle safe to cut, this is what i did.
1. find a empty old out of date bottle.
2. open the gas valve and air it out for a day.
3. remove the valve and fill the bottle with water to purge all the gas out and leave full for a day.
4. tip water out and leave upside down for a couple of days.
5. fill with water and cut the top ring off and cut the door out.
I put the hinge on before i fully cut the doorout so it would still line up ok.
I used some angleiron offcuts to make the hotplate frame.
I cut the top out of the bottle before welding the angleiron on and
made a flue out of some 90mm shs and added some sleeves to take the legs.
Then i gave it a run tonight to burn the paint off. It worked a treat.
I still have to fit a latch on the door, cut the flue down and add a longer removeable section,
finish welding the leg sleeves on and give it a paint of pot belly black.
Pretty happy with the result so far and it should get some use at home under the pergola and if we go away in the van where they allow fires.
So far i have only had to pay for some cut off disks and some welding rods.
