look like doing a vehicle delivery from Brisbane to Adelaide (no van) has anyone been to Kangaroo Island? looks nice on paper ,thinking of spending 3 or 4 days , catch the ferry over there get a local hire car and have a look around staying at cabins or whatever anyone been there? Lake Mungo is also on wlsh list on this trip while at that end of country
well we got to Kangaroo Island ,tried for 4 days 3 nights for a good look around ,really good scenery in certain areas ,its a lot bigger than you think over 150 km from the ferry terminal to the touristy places at Flinders chase.main road sealed but a lot of the side trips dirt, our first issue was the borrowed car a hyundai kona hybrid, this is classed as an electric car ,the ferry company only allows 4 electric vehicles per crossing and they are parked up the front near the exit ramp , i wonder why ha ha (any vehicle towing a trailer or van has to reverse on) appears the new ferry they are waiting on will be drive on/off). the cost, kona 4.4 meters in length and two people travelling $508. 45 min trip you have to tell them exactly which time you want cross as different pricing for different times of day and also days of week. we stayed in a BB $108 per night so far $832 and we are not even there ,add to that national park day passes and extra cost to view certain attractions. we could not get an am ferry to go over on the day we wanted and took a 3.30 pm crossing did our normal tourist things and bought lots of really good honey, going home was supposed to be a 5.30 pm departure which would have got us back to the mainland as it got dark ,not the best as we were staying 3 hours away, BTW its windy and raining, went to the ferry terminal about 1pm to say we were in the area and if they had any slots give us a call ,they would have put us on the 1.30 ferry except the already had 4 electric cars,so how would 2.30 suit?, said yes ,good, only cost $45 to move the booking ( 2 seconds) and $25 extra as 2,30 was more popular than 5.30, i gritted my teeth and paid it, ( the ferry was not full about 9 empty spaces )by going early we got to our destination at Mawson Lakes just as the sun set, would i go again ? maybe. not with a van though would be a good place to use a smaller motor home and stay in the excellant camps near the tourist attractions but you would have to get one thats allowed on dirt roads, in the month we were in SA it was wooly beanie cold i think we had 3/4 fine days but all in all a really good trip
