Hey Leesy
have a look at http://www.expandasdownunder.com/showthread.php/1779-Antmans-16-49-3/page2
post #17. I have some pics there. Whilst there isn't one from underneath the black rubber, there is one to show the pipework that it will protect and you can see the rubber. If you want I can take some pics this weekend of it to show the final underneath.

Ants
Thanks Ants, i did toss the idea of adding the the steel shock protectors but ended up adding about 300mm wide flaps on the cross member in fromt of the suspension as i felt it would protect the pipes ect too, i owe this forum some photos of my van as i have never posted them, i keep waiting unitl i do the next job.... i just got a monitor for the battery that included a hall meter so i can see how much power is being drawn at anytime as well as the overall charge.
I will try and takle some shots this weeken weather permitting!!!

I would love to have a toolbox on the front of mine however it doesn't have an extended drawbar and if i did it, it would not allow my WDH setup to fit. :(

Hey Antman,
I don't have the extended drawbar on mine and still have a front box.
I can also still use my WDH, you can see the brackets on the A frame in this photo.

Cheers,
Matty.

PS. Welcome Robbo, good set of mods there too..

My Panda already had 2 100w Solar Panels and a Roof Top Air Con. So after the chains had to be replaced with Aust Standard chain to get it licensed in WA (Jayco were not interested in that they were using non Aust Standard chain on their vans), I....
a) Upgraded the back 2 gas struts, just so the lift was more manageable.
b) Added a 3rd 55l water tank toward the rear. We like to go Free Camping so wanted as much water as possible (55kg also assists to balance the load)
c) Rerouted the tank selector into inside the van - sick of having to get under the van to do this.
d) Inserted a one way valve into the water pipe to the water spout hand pump.
e) Inserted all the John Guest circlips which Jayco had not bothered to do for all the water fittings. (they weren't interested in hearing this either)
f) Added another 100amp battery
g) Added a 3000w Inverter to run the Microwave. Great for Free Camping!
h) Put in a car radio/CD player above the Microwave.
i) Put in a shower rail/curtain in the shower area (tired of having a wet toilet area) - it also strengthens the wall which has the door swung off it.
j) Added a Ali storage box and moved the gas cylinders into it ( having it vented in the bottom) and it has 2 drawers with top access.
k) Made up a spare tyre rack which is swung off the cross member just behind where the spare was originally.
l) Put on a bike channel on the rear bumper to hold one bike, but I only take a bike away when we are going to be somewhere I can use it,
m) Bought the Coast to Coast annex walls. (I store them in the rear storage as it assists to balance the load).
n) Replaced the brake magnets as Jayco hadn't put the clips in the hold the magnets off the drums.
o) Had the GPO relocated because it is unusable because it is hidden behind the cooktop lid when open.
p) Turned the hanging space fitting so that your clothes are all accessible sideways and not just the first one or two at the front. (Actually made up a new fitting with more holes)
Yes - I have had fun and now we enjoy our trips way in our panda, and don't come back with a list of things to do to the van!

In case you are interested here are photos of some of my modifications to our 16.49.3:
1) The rerouting of water tank selector - used two taps rather than the standard diverter.
2014-01-15-648.jpg
2) Hanging space modified rail and location. Now we can access all our hanging clothes. We use wire coat hangers as they take less room
2014-01-15-649.jpg
3) Shower Curtain - 2 photos to show it closed and partially open. The roof is down as the van is in our carport.
2014-01-15-650.jpg 2014-01-15-651.jpg
4) Radio - also see where the 240 GPO has be relocated to - bottom right of the photo (from behind the cooktop lid)
2014-01-15-652.jpg
5) LED Strip under the Rollout awning - very bright. Also put some under the cupboard above the L shaped lounge.
2014-01-15-653.jpg
6) Single Bike Carrier - the center extension which is used to secure the bike is not in the photo. Used velcro to secure the wheels into the channel.
2014-01-15-656.jpg
7) 3rd water tank sitting behind and plumbed into the 2nd tank inlet/outlet
2014-01-15-657.jpg
8) Spare Tyre rack has a hasp lock
2014-01-15-660.jpg
9) Ali box on front with 2x9kg Gas cylinder under the drawers and small bits in the drawers.
2014-01-15-662.jpg 2014-01-15-664.jpg
10) Handle on the rollout BBQ door - always found the door was stuck and need prising open.
2014-01-15-666.jpg
11) 12v Fan to assist Fridge air flow on very hot days. Using the same 12v wiring as the radio.
2014-01-15-655.jpg

12) Trojan (Covs) short Load Leveler (an inverted spring) - photo showing it not attached to vehicle.
2014-01-15-661.jpg
13) Latch on door (extra precaution to stop door opening while traveling). Jayco do have an ongoing issue with their door lock, so I don't trust it.
2014-01-15-667.jpg
14) Inverter external outlet so that I can connect to the van 240v inlet to run Microwave etc. Extra battery is located with the original battery and Inverter in separate space which is near to the battery area - ie under the L shaped lounge.
2014-01-15-658.jpg
15) external 12v outlets and Anderson plug on side
2014-01-15-668.jpg

Now we return from our holidays/trips and often don't have any 'Must do this to make our camping better' list.

Would be nice to catch up. We are down Armadale way.
Just finished the replacement rear bumper with the fold down spare, now doing the drawer to replace the fold down soap tray.

NOT A MODIFICATION but we have a 05 expanda outback 16 and with a lot of use the cupboard doors being what they are wear quickly
getting a match is hard, we replaced one with Cherry Formica and it matches perfectly at the massive cost of $42 +$26 should have had more done $26 is workshop charge.if buying a new van Formica instead of the photo papered original should be a option.
even a scourer took off surface.
