Hi all,

Who has had one of the sizzler BBQ's fitted to their caravan from Jayco? I'm keen on the high lid version but Jayco won't fit it, so that leaves me with the standard unit. I see it as a great addition as I prefer a hot plate bbq instead of a grill style like my Weber baby q. What are everyone ones thoughts? Plus it's around an $800 option during the build.

Cheers

We have a Sizzler Delux high lid. Great BBQ didn't buy it from jayco. We got it because it fits in our front boot.

I have the Sizzler on mine (August 2016 build).

Good BBQ. Not perfect, but then I have never met a BBQ that is perfect for all jobs. After several vans, I was not going to muck around again with getting a BBQ out of a boot, setup stands etc. Slide-out for us was the only way to go.

My ONLY regret is not having the optional stainless plate. If I get around to it I'll order one from the BBQ manufacturer. That being said, the non-stick surface on the standard plate is quite good quality and I have not had any issues with it to date, despite quite a lot of use.

yes I like the idea of not having to lug the Weber in and out of the Van and then setup

but

I dont like it $800's worth - thats a lot of carrying of the Weber at $20.00 per hour...............
maybe get the slide, but not the BBQ itself?

That's true Doc, just out of curiosity I priced up to have it all done later down the track to keep the cost of the new van down and I'm looking at roughly $1200 fitted by a caravan repairer in Perth! So decisions decisions!
I'll suss out the hot plate from Weber, thanks guys.
Does the Weber hot plate work well for snags, onions, eggs etc?

does everything except clean itself

breakfast of champions
Bacon, Eggs, Onions, Mushrooms, and fried bread

I do use Egg rings though, the bigger ones made from silicone

I only use the grill plate when doing a roast

Sounds like the go bigcol, I'll have a look into it.
I guess the slide out appeals more to me because of the convenience.
I'm figuring the Weber hot plate needs plenty of pre heating prior to use?

I have a Weber BabyQ and love it, I have a flat plate that sits on top of the grill when wanting to do eggs/onions.
I was looking at building a slide out but I had second thoughts for the following reasons
The front hatch where the BBQ would slide out is where I also keep my Jack/Tools/Rags and reaching in from the other side did not seem like a great plan.
The BBQ is always there and often we go camping with friends and we set up both his BabyQ and mine side by side so one can be used as a warmer while the other is BBQing.
If you want to use the BBQ down the beach it usually requires unbolting from a slide out making it a pain.
Also I have a friend who used to set up his BBQ next to the door (about the same place as the slide out) and he said that the smoke would always end up in his van

This is why I went for the trolly option

Once you fit the weber hotplate, it performs like a regular BBQ as far as heating times and cooking, and you can use it with the lid open as well.

One thing to remember with the slideout option is the grease that ends up on the side of the van.

We actually had the Jayco sales guy talk us out of the slideout BBQ for this reason

Thanks everyone, loads of good points there.
I'll have to seriously think hard about whether it's worth the expense or not.

We have a cast iron 2 burner camp stove plate in our Q100. Fits perfectly, flat on one side, griddle on the flip. Fits on top of the factory supplied grill, and only cost $19

The 3 burner cast iron camp stove plate fits the Q200

Couldnt come at the price of the Weber branded variety

We were warned the same thing. Also told that the smell goes through the van during storage times.
