Hi,
We’ve just purchased a Jayco 2020 17ft expanda (touring) and need to now what height to have my tow ball so that it lines up with tow hitch height for when I pick it up. Any ideas??

thanks

You will have to wait till you pick the van up to see hitch height .However as long as the van has slight front down attitude when hitched up ,not rear down you can safely drive it home.Final Depends also on tow vehicle, loads. Etc etc.

When you get your rig home and its all nicely loaded along with your tug, on flat surface measure the distance between ground and tow ball on van and tug, set the tug to be around 25mm higher than van and thats the ideal starting point and go from there....... if the van drops the ball more than 40mm you will certainly need to rearrange your loading.........

Aust Design Rules state the centre of a 50mm ball coupling is btw 350mm and 420mm, so the centre of your ball (towball, ha) ending up around 375mm you'll be giving yourself the best guess ..... so aiming for around 400mm before you leave home will allow you ball height to settle under load at somewhere around that 375mm mark and hopefully once hitched and loaded up you'll end up somewhere around the middle'sh of that 350/420, and despite not knowing your specific hitch height you'll at get it home where you can adj it as required. Hopefully Jayco know that Aust Design Rule 8-)

That ADR has always intrigued me, Big Mal's hitch is original, compliance plated correctly and is at 510mm, which certainly saved a lot of hassle, no need for a plough on tug...
