And the Tilly lamps...
you know I still have my Tilly lamp, and them damned mantles.....................
too long, uses too much kero
too short and it smokes like a bugga

also still got my Gas Tilly Lamp - with the mantles you used to burn
same mantle been in there maybe 20yrs...................gas bottle probably near due for refill............
mind you, it only gets used nowadays if the power goes out at home

When I tossed the old gas lamp...not used in over 10 years but kept, just in case it was needed....the mantle was intact.

How can that be as, when we did use it, the mantle always had to be replaced?

and I found the brand new gas extender pole for said lamp....both now donated to the tip.

and can anyone remember the GAZ lamp, stove etc ...used for bush walking? The gas canisters cost more than the stove, if I remember correctly.

Our gas mantles, mongrel things, bounce around in back of wagon all the way up dirt tracks, river rocks, everyone and everything bouncing all over the place, get to camp hang up light, mantle all good, it turns to dust when I try to light it..............

.Pulled up at Pilliga Pub one day, walk around truck, check load, smell gas, idiot cook packed portable kitchen with gas bottle, opening up a huge steel box very carefully to turn gas off, it's a big bluddy bomb..............................publican had a beer ready for me thankfully.................talk about flamin hot.
