Is the tare weight done with no LP cylinders?
Does the Max draw bar weight of 194kg seem low (ATM 2272)?
Does the outback come std with a rear bumper (not the round tube version)?
Would like to know if anyone has a 2012 Discovery OB 17.55-5 and hear what is on their compliance plate vs our van?
Empty ball mass 147kg
Max ball mass. 194kg
Tare. 1797kg
GTM. 2125kg
ATM. 2272kg
Axle group 2700kg
.

I believe the tare is with gas cylinders fitted but empty, water tanks also empty.
Ball weight appears OK
Outback vans did have the round bar when I had my 2010 model but have changed to the RHS type, I am unsure when.
Can't help with comparisons

Thanks for all of the replies everyone,

Chipping away at it with the nicer weather we had today, cut the dual 10L Jerry can holder off the drawbar as well. Also did the carpet, I thought getting the whole box and subsequently presuming it was the same batch was delusional on my part!! The squares go down well but the colours aren't quite the same, I'm not sure if it's just the way the pile is sitting and time will tell. the picture makes it look worse that it is but overall I'm happy with the job and it does feel nice under foot.

Quick shout out to all the peeps that posted their pictures and thoughts on carpet in the other thread that is going at the moment, it was a big help :peace:

Correct @17triton, I was aware of this and pretty confident the arrows are the same way. Plan to have a look in a couple of weeks when I get back from a trip, if it find anything I will post it up.

Cheers Max.

Hi all,

Just an update on the carpet, it must just be the way the pile is? So I'm going to have to surpress the ocd for the time being.

On another note I'm in the throws of re-jigging my rear bar for dual spares and have removed the chequer plate along with the all the bike hold down stuff. I have retained the bumper ect for the redesign but, if anyone would like to have all the bike hold down skewers, loops and the chequer plate to do this to their van they are welcome to have it (see pictures above of it on our van) You will need to lengthen the legs for your current rear bumper but this isn't a big job and would gladly help someone that isn't capable if it was needed. I have a picture with bikes mounted from the old owner but just wouldn't post with out permission, they travelled for 18 months with 2 x high quality MTB's on there and had no issues at all. I'm in the process of doing a 4 bike carrier myself with the help of a mate and solidworks program but will put that in our build thread as it develops.

I will give it a couple of weeks before I bin the chequer plate in the scrap bin at work.

Cheers Max,

Hi everyone, just a quick hello and introduction.

We are a family of 4 (kids are 8 and 10)

Very new to the caravan game and just purchased our first van, was a roller coaster ride trying to pick a van and find what we wanted in the secondhand market but are thrilled with what we got. The forum has already been a great help filtering the wheat from the chaff with our desicion making process and look forward to contributing where we can.
The commissioner of finances is already nervous with all the ideas I'm getting from this forum so I have been banished to just dreaming at this point until she recovers from the caravan purchase.

Only just got the van and spent my holidays getting the car fitted with the required bits and bobs and putting our own touches to the van. No shake down as yet and will try and post some pictures on the maiden trip.

Van is a 2012 17.55-5SH Discovery OB
Extras:
150l fridge
Roof top ac
Twin Batteries
Upgraded solar (what ever that means?)

Tug is a 2008 GXL Prado D4D and looks like it will be up to the task.

Cheers Max, Elisha and the kids.

Congrats on the new Van, mods are looking great.
