@MichaelB maybe have a chat to your Ford dealer regarding a WDH for the Ranger, a good friend of mine who is very safety conscious and has used a WDH on every van he has owned , until now, was advised by the dealer not to fit a WDH when towing with the Ranger, and he reckons his 20ft Concept tows fine without one. I can't find anything in my Manual on whether you should or shouldn't. My 16:49 tows a treat without one behind my Ranger but then again its not really heavy enough to warrant one
Cheers Grant

Hello everyone. Hopefully I am following the correct protocol in saying hi!

My family and I (wife Julie and kids Nicola 9, Lucia 5 and Dario 17 months) are not Expanda owners yet, but plan to upgrade from our current, much loved and travelled Johnnos camper trailer in 2015. So we are currently very much in the research phase for our planned purchase.

We have identified the 17.56-2 Outback as the model for us, and will mainly tow it behind my PX Ford Wildtrack or 120 series Prado depending on weights for each particular trip.

At the moment we are working out options and upgrades we plan to have installed on our new Expanda to ensure it can free camp as well as our camper currently can. I would like to say that your forum has been a wonderful research tool and congratulate all users on what appears to be a very friendly and helpful site.

I am sure I will have my share of silly questions, or questions that have been asked 1000 times before, but no doubt I will ask anyway so bear with me!

This may not be the most appropriate place to ask my first question, and if not please direct me elsewhere, however I am interested to know more about WDH's. I don't currently have one for the camper, and while I understand the principle of operation, I would appreciate some real life advice on whether or not I should consider one given the model and tow combination we are planning. I intend to spec the Outback with the Alko stability control if that alters opinions. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Oh, we are from Perth, and I work in the automotive battery industry. So if anyone would like any advice on batteries for your vans, please feel free to ask.

Thanks once again for a great forum!

Mike

Hi @Bushman @Colin&Sue and @Bluey and thanks for your greetings!!

@Bluey I'm still not quite decided on the WDH, and yes I think the ball weight could be interesting. Especially with a box on the a frame. Will be keeping a close eye on this! I'm sure my Prado would tow it just fine, but I know the Ranger will tow it even better. The torque is incredible. We buy BT50's in our business, and I prefer the look of the Ford myself. Each to their own of course :) I also think they have slightly different engine mapping that delivers a minor but I think noticeable variation in the torque curve. The Ford seems to come in earlier. Both great cars though.

Thanks for the suggestion re the Ford dealer @Capt. Gadget will be doing this for sure! Although sometimes getting a straight answer can be a challenge :argue:

Thanks @mfexpanda

Seems to be a common thread here re help spending money!! I can tell you I am very close to placing an order for a new 17.56-2 OB, just waiting on confirmation of a couple of things from the Jayco dealer in Perth and then it will be all systems go!

I'll be sure to post up the details of exactly what we are getting as soon as it is all confirmed... Getting excited now :cheer2:
