Hi @Sunny, my ATM is 2521 on compliance with a 186L fridge. I tow with a Pajero which can tow 3T but at that can only have 180kg on the ball, so really legally for me it's 2.5T and 250 on the ball. I'm border line with both ball weight and ATM but I wouldn't sell my van and at this stage I'll keep the Pajero, I'd love a Cruiser but a bit big for my wife's everyday car.....might join the BT clan one day!
Cheers.

Interesting mate, these weights have been doing my head in!!

Spoke to Aami Insurance this morning and explained my situation, they assured me they would honour the policy provided weight was not considered an issue in an accident determined by the police investigation. They have entered my concerns and weights as a note on my policy and also included the response provided by Aami.

Common sense goes along way, and if I wasn't confident of my vehicle safely towing this van with my family then I would have never bought it!

18 months to go on the Prados lease then we'll re visit the possible upgrades

Cheers,

A happy camper :)

It's a Toyota thing alright! I struggled to justify the $'s for the Prado let alone a 200 Cruiser!!

Need the seating of the prado, had bad experiences with the ML Triton and carbon so that ruled out Pajeros... Heard mixed reviews with Nissans and Land Rovers?

If Jeep did a 7 seater they'd get my attention for sure!!
Great lookin rigs

I had a 2011 Prado and it would definately tow more than 3.0T, I reckon Mr Toyota downgrades the tow rating as a lot of people by LC200s purely as a tow vehicle. If the Prado towed more than 2.5T, they wouldn't nearly as many LC200s IMHO!!

Spot on Pace. I'm actually sitting on the veranda having a coffee, trying to think up some mods to do to the van so I don't have to tile!:(

Mate I'd be imaging the beer I'd be consuming at the end of hard days work, though in the back of my mind mods to the van/ trips away as doing reno. I'll have a beer for you ok.

Sorry @Sunny to highjack your thread. Pace.

Ok, so I bought the ball weight scales and weighed today before we left for the weekend! 230kg with full gas, spare wheel on front, back tank full and carrying the table under the front lid. Added 3 bikes to the back and 200kgs.....happy days!

Has having those scales changed the way you pack your van @Burnsy or was it just for your own curiosity? Looks like you've fine tuned it nicely!
Safe trip, hope the weekend forecast doesn't eventuate for ya :)

Hi mate, no change really except that I'm now transporting my table under the front lid and I didn't know how much weight the bikes take off the ball, so I was curious. Nice surprise actually as I weighed using the bathroom scale method a while ago and it showed a bit heavier. Another draw card up my sleeve is the waeco which is always full (drinks fridge) when we travel and up front of the van, so if I needed to I could move to the back!
Yeah I hope the weather holds up......beautiful day today! :)
Cheers.

I disagree, I believe that Toyota are one of the few manufacturers being responsible with their tow capacities. It is not about how well a vehicle can pull a load, it is how a vehicle can stop the load and keep it stable on the road in adverse situations. There are many combinations out there that would allow for the tail to wag the dog, IMHO and this places many people in a dangerous situation.

Sunny I met a guy that was towing a large Avan around with a Kluger. I asked him suspecting it was over his GVM (this was before I bought a 4x4 and was considering another Kluger) his van was only over by about 40-60kg as well. What he did was load it carefully to keep under 2000kg. Then went and got a weight bridge ticket, took a photo and carried that with him should he be ever checked.
