It looks good, I like the idea of wifi updates and the camera. Wonder if it would work as a dash camera?
I think I would go for it over the HN7 due to more RAM (1GB) and better battery, plus the above features, though fundamentally I think they are very similar. However, my HN7 still has to pay its way for a bit more time, it is under a year old and working well. The HXN1 is currently $699 for pre order, not cheap.

HMMMM looks good and tempting.
And the HN7 has now been reduced by $150 to $549 including sunshade! Wonder how long before the "evilbay" sellers drop their prices?

but,

they lost me with the camera (with Geo-tagging ) & Hema Cloud....................................................

I have a mobile phone that does that (well, not with a Hema Cloud anyway),
next model Hema will wash dishes and cut your Steaks for you.........?

I know I am living in "Colins World" when it comes to some of the new "improved" technologies...............

I have a mobile phone, that in theory is more powerful than what they used to "apparently" put a man on the moon

a bit of over kill, when I only use it to make phone calls, and take the occasional picture, and do faceache, and my banking, and surf the net
oh, hell, who am I trying to kid

but when it comes to a GPS, I dont want (or need) an "All Singing + All Dancing" machine

I just wanna put maps in it, and find where I am
take pictures with it - why do I carry a phone and Camera for (and I'm driving, so I cannot do that anyway)
load said pictures onto a cloud (why) so I can post them on line.......... thats what a memory stick (or memory card) is for

maybe I need to go back under my rock
a second hand HN6 or 7 sounds good to me

Yeah I haven't had much of a look cause I don't need one. The whole cloud bit is good for getting tracks and sharing etc but it's part of that era today where they want us to share everything! The sharing part for me would be just for easier track planning not to let my friends or the world know I had a coffee here or a dump there!

I wouldn't worry about battery life the hn7 is too cumbersome to carry around as a personal device so battery life is moot IMO. Ram well again the hn7. Has enough to do what it needs too, the new one probably needs more ram to work. Same with sunsheild waste of money never needed it. Gpsoz in Sydney usallly does good prices and will include extra maps better than a shield IMO.

good point.........
I have seen the ones mounted into the dash - sun blinds the view
my Navmole same thing on top of the dash - sometimes the sun blinds it, some times not........

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I have a mate who brought one of the original flash 7" Chinese ones in 2000 - still going strong
have another mate with a flash 7" Chinese one - about 2012 - died very quickly
have another mate - it takes him about 5 mins to load up whatever track file we need when off road - too slow I say - boring as Bat Shyte waiting for the track files

same with the double din ones - some good - some bad - big name - cheap copies - all a hit and miss I think

Disagree about not needing the sun shade on the HN7. We found it was needed. The screen of the HN7 when mounted in the middle of the windscreen of our Pajero was hard to read without the sun screen fitted; from the position of the driver and the navigator. The sun screen made it workable, I do think the HN7 screen could be brighter in sunlight.

It may be different in our new tow. If you could mount the HN7 away from the windscreen glare would not be a big issue. Agree the battery life is not great, HN7 is not really usable as a GPS for walking, but great for driving.

I agree about using it as a protable device, way better units out there for that purpose. The only time I would have it out of the car would be to plab route's etc in the van of a night etc.

I find the sunshade good on our's although I haven't tried it without, but it does occupy a fair amount of real estate up on the dash, part of the price of a large screen I suppose.

Cheers Glen.

and
thats another thing where to mount it

- Navmole is small, so sits on the dash in front of me - but it is 4.3" screen
with a 7".........
mount it on top of the dash
in the dash (GPS / Radio / CD / DVD / Dishwasher / Singing & Dancing Machine.............)
mount off the passenger seat so it sits in between the seats.......... like this

starting to get a little like work................... trying to work it out

Don't forget GPS needs a good view of the satellites, a very important consideration when deciding where to mount.
Also bigcol where did you get that impressive alien looking mounting arm, do you have a URL for it?

I have an external aerial from the VDO Dayton one that was in the Cruiser - if I get one, having an external aerial plug will be handy

it is an ARKON brand one - they are USA but do have re-sellers in Australia

Well the trusty old magellan xl of over 10 years finally had enough the other day and found myself in the gps market
Had a bit of a look at the hn7 before deciding on the HX-1
Had always had an idea I would like a hema unit but could never justify a second gps.
Picked it up yesterday

like that is has both street and 4wd maps.
scale of details seems very good too.
additional stuff
2 years street uodates and think the 4wd updates is unlimited.

Will try some local stuff soon but 1st real test will be next holiday north in school break.

i have a Hema HN6 which is fantastic. The only comment i would have though is occasionally it wants to send you in big cities on routes that isn't suitable for vans for sometimes you still need to have your whits with you. The fact that it has all services stations, points of interest and camps 6 all programmed in it, makes the cost worth while
