Hello All
Looking at getting a generator for use with a 17.56-2. Expectation is something that will run the a.c if required plus the other usual suspects. I have a roof top dometic unit.
I'm keen to understand if 2000w is large enough or have to go to a 2400w
Looking at the Honda (eu20i) or the Yamaha (2000is) if anyone has one in good condition they are keen to sell please give me a shout
Cheers,
Matt

We have the Honda eu20 and same air con as yours, it runs it fine. Haven't used it much but might have to turn the ac off if running a bigger battery charger, not tried that yet though.

got one from supsercheap on there sale, 1700kw with 1950kw peak. Runs Aircon, heater, everything fine. Just can't use the kettle we have but that's to be expected and it only cost us $630.

I can vouch for them, the importer is a very close friend and I have been to the factory, I'm just a brand junkie I guess

We have the Honda and never an issue with the A/C. If you choose to run the microwave, we don't have one, you need to turn it off of Eco mode though.

We have the 2000i Yamaha and it runs our AC fine, we get about 4-6 hrs of run time from a full tank when using the AC as it is running full noise and depending on how much it is cycling. You get about 10 hrs on the eco mode if only running lights, fridge and battery chargers etc. I went the yamaha as it was quieter than the honda by 3 Db. The beuty of the Yamaha (I think the honda as well) is that is auto senses the load - you can leave it set on full power and if you are not using full power the unit will automatically throttle back to eco mode. Vice verca - it will ramp up automatically as required also.

I got the Yamaha 2400 due to the fact when it is running and the air con is on. The geny is not running at full noise which makes it good on fuel and quieter around camp. The name brands are all pretty quiet tho. The down side is the 2400 is slightly heavier to handle compared to the 2000i

I'm looking at getting a generator also but would like peoples thoughts and ideas where to store the generator whilst travelling and is the added weight a real problem?

They had the Honda EU20i on special at Leisurefest at Sandown last weekend. $1699 (pretty good value i think) with a pack of goodies including cover, oil kit, 20amp lead and other bits and pieces and i was told that it would run our a/c (IBIS brand) no problem.

I've got the Honda EU20i runs our van and A/C.

If I had a choice I would buy the Yamaha and the 2400. As above does it easier, I also think the Yamaha's are a newer design.

Hi @KevO we had this problem too. I made the mistake once of carrying the genie in the van and it took a couple of days to get the smell of petrol fumes out.

The next trip I strapped it to the spare tyre in between the gas bottles, not ideal but it worked. However I put the fuel can in the tunnel...the smell still made it's way into the van!! because you can access the tunnel from inside the van, therefore not airtight (duh!!).

So now, I have ordered a toolbox to be mounted on the drawbar that will fit the genie and fuel can just nicely :)

I have the Honda EU10i.

It came with the van. Sold it as part of the van package. The seller was upgrading to the EU20i.

In saying that, if I were to buy one I`d go for at least the 2000Watt so I could run the Microwave and Air Con.

In saying that, I have to say that I was surprised what I could run on my little Honda Eu10i.
As well as running the lights, fridge and battery charger, I gave it a few more challanges and was surprised with the outcome.
I`ve run the air con on cool and it surprisingly it did the job.
I also ran my wifes hair dryer on medium and surprisingly, it also did the job.

It wont didn't the air con on heat. It didn't run the microwave. It didn't run the kettle.

Still I can cool the van down, and the missus can do her hair even when we're out in the wilderness.
