Is the road through to Karratha from Tom Price all sealed now?

Negative mate, still mostly gravel along the Rio rail access road or the Munjina Road/spur road. We travelled via Karijini Drive, Gt Northern Hwy and NWC Hwy to stay on the black stuff. It was my first time towing something that big and wanted some nice easy practice. Also not quite ready to shake Samson apart just yet!
Took us just over 6h for about 520km, I actually enjoyed just cruising and getting a feel for the van :)

I thought the road out through Western creek and Harding river towards Milstream would go all the way to Tom Price by now.

I worked on that road for close to 18months (the 1st 90 klms) there was talk then that it was going to be sealed all the way to TP.
would cut a lot of klm's off .

Sure would. Yep it's still just that section... how you left it... any chance of coming back? :) Many people shoot across to Karratha for shopping etc but the access road section can still be quite tough. I've always carried 2 spares doing it but have only done 1 tyre before (over approx 6 trips). Generally as you know it's about pressures and speeds. The spur road (I forget the name) from near Witenoom on the Nanutarra-Munjina Rd up towards Milstream is generally smoother but adds more time.

No I won't be back ,have retired now.I loved working there .Beautiful country especially after the first rains.
It has been about 8 years since they sealed that section and were talking about the rest all those years ago, don't know what has happened since then

Yeah I remember when it got done... I think the GFC changed a lot of plans in this part of the world. I saw actual plans, blueprints for a new airport near Tom Price, to replace the one near Paraburdoo. It never eventuated, along with a lot of projects on-site too. I still need to drive 70km to the Para airport if I am to catch an overpriced flight to Perth!
