So on our new Expanda there is a gas bayonet at the front, when we have the weber hooked up do we then need to turn the gas bottle on - off after every time we use it or can we leave it on for 2 weeks?

I would suggest the bayonet fitting would work much the same as running the fridge on gas for 2 weeks. But have never used that bayonet fitting, so will also be keen to find out.

I know on my panda the gas bottle feeds all the gas appliances, so my gas is on the the bayonet when the gas bottle is on. If you look under the. An there is an isolation valve near the bayonet if you where worried about it leaking gas. But I leave mine on all the time.

I just leave it on all the time, no worries. If you are worried about leaking from the weber, just turn off the isolation tap that should be on the line not far back from the bayonet.

I agree with @Flanders shouldn't be a problem, we have our Baby Q hooked up with no prob's, it's a bayonet fitting so disconnect it if you're worried about gas leakage but you shouldn't have any dramas so long as the rubber o-ring inside the bayonet is in good condition. I periodically grease mine with a little silicone o-ring grease to keep it nice and pliable.

Just bought a 16.49-4 and also have a baby Q. Where do you get the gas fittings from to connect to the bayonet?

I tend to turn the isolation valve off when I have the weber hooked up.
With kids running around I like to be sure someone tripping over the 3m hose doesn't cause a problem.

Just search gas bayonet and you will find the hose and fitting. We are hoping to go camping as soon as this weather clears so I bought one from the camping shop... If you have the time, go with eBay, I paid double I had to. :-(

Has anyone got a gas bayonet cover under their van? The bayonet faces down on my van and is behind the wheel so i'm thinking it won't be long before dirt and dust will get into the bayonet and it won't seal properly or block the BBQ hose when I connect it. I will also turn the isolation tap off when not in use... Just to be safe.

This is the one I have on my van, works good & does the job.

My 16.49.3 has a slide out bbq with the bayonet was facing down under the van and it was always a struggle to get the fitting into it. So I rerouted the pipe to face out and also changed the fitting to a clip type (like the Pope hose fittings). Found a rubber stopper (like those on chair legs) which fitted over the gas fitting to keep the dust out.

Yes facing it out might be the way to go. Pushing it up into the socket wasn't real convenient. Give it a couple of trips and Ill see how it goes.

Be careful guys, those sorts of changes may not meet the gas regulations and compliance, you may also require a qualified gas fitter to authorise, the fittings are facing down for a reason I would expect. I found a little silicon grease on the o-ring makes inserting the fitting a lot easier.
