Yep stay safe everyone

Spoke to my sister in law yesterday at Murwillumbah, they are cut of from town on the main road but can get around on the high side if need, water is lapping their back fence from neighboring property but no danger of the house going underground as its higher up

I have just been watching the special coverage on the news and it's mind boggling just how severe Debbie was. The aftermath has taken everyone by surprise. I feel for everyone caught up in it. Stay safe everyone we are thinking of you.

Stay safe everyone. I spoke to my brother in Brisbane last night and he said there is a lot of water around.
He was even sent home at 10:30am yesterday morning as the city was closed down.

We're stuck in a caravan park with huge wind gusts, and a rain count of over 300mm yesterday ....but that is better than the almost 600mm they had where we were headed. I'm glad we cancelled!

We still can't get home as roads are flooded ...our place at home has no power and had water in last night. Thankfully, we have sensible and capable house sitters who seem to have dealt with it efficiently. They now have open access to all the freezer contents!

This caravan park at Evans Head has over 200 sites, is right on the river so is exposed to the winds....there are now about 10 vans left and the place was fully booked for school holidays. Massive cancellations. Park people have just been around to help those left here get awnings etc down as winds are expected to increase and to check to see if we're all ok. Good on 'em!

Local stores were flooded yesterday and there are sandbags everywhere.

The upside is that the free internet is faster with so few logging on!

Aggrrhhh me hearties.....I feel akin to a sailor!

The local riverside cafe is open so we can get great lamb shank pies, the RSL and bowls club are also rocketing and the fish n chips here are fine.

It's stopped raining, thank goodness, and the wind is now only about 90 so things are looking up!

I wasn't happy at 2am this morning when we had to get up quickly and catch the awning walls as they blew out in the gale. Great fun pulling them down in a gale and pouring rain. I'm sure many have had to do it ...now I'm yet another. The whole park was totally underwater...tried to take a photo but it's no good...but the river hasn't flooded. Water has dropped very quickly.

We're not moving till we're happy it's reasonably safe....got lots of books and DVDs and we certainly won't starve.

Haven't left the house for 2 days, spent a few hours yesterday channeling water away from my shed and the van. 370 mm over the two days.

Just a couple of Km away, a causeway, with just pipes under it was upgraded to a "flood proof" bridge only a couple of years back but a section of it was completely washed away so it will be closed off for a few months while they work out who to blame for the collapse and another 6 to 12 months to rebuild it.

But the devastation is so wide spread it is going to take a long time to recover.

Some of the news coverage really showed the damage from Bowen down to Lismore and all points in between. Just glad I live on the Gold Coast. :o

YIKES @Bushman

pity you dont have a "before" shot as well to compare

We live on the Sth Pine river Nth Brisbane which luckily only peaked at 5.5 metres (2.5 below the 8 metre max level). The photos below taken from verandah are over 3 hrs. The river peaked at midnight so no quality photos.
Had me thinking whether I should move the Expanda which is parked at 8.0 metres.
Spent today cleaning flood debris from around the trees etc and will get a dingo to move it when it is not so wet. The rubbish collected is astounding from bottles , witches hat, foam, electrical conduit with wires probably from a pump supply, and the dogs favourite balls, I think Ive got more tennis balls than the Aus open.
We were fortunate in comparison to others.

I was working next to Lawnton show grounds when the bridge washed away, thankfully it was not as bad this time, got stuck on the hi way trying to get home that time

When did that happen. Was it the bridge on Gympie rd at Petrie or the bridge just down the hill from Showgrounds.Only a recent immigrant to this state (2015) so still researching flood records and impacts associated with the Pine river system.
