Hey @Drover

just picked up my new Colorado and busy making the to do list. I want to get the under-body stuff done before it goes in for rustproofing and was checking the location of diff breathers etc. Front , rear diff and the transfer case breathers were easy enough to find but the only one i can find that appears to go to the auto transmission has a T that sends it down to the gearbox cross member. Looks more like a drain than a breather I think. Any idea what that hose might be for.

Looks like a drain but haven't noticed it on mine. Found the breathers to be reasonable I thought. I usually run them into the engine bay with old style petrol filters on the end.
Since I'm home for a few days I would put mine on the ramp and have a look but my shed is now full of household stuff, thanks to my daughter, we aren't staying around though, end up being babysitters and scholl bus drivers.

I couldn't get over how the body had buggerall sound proofing underneath, I sprayed the black muck all over mine and the more fluid stuff thru the chassis, horrible job to do, if wasn't able to walk under mine would certainly pay someone.

I reckon the mod to protect the water drain on the fuel filters is a must, ALDI floor mats, the 4x4 ones fit perfectly.

I pulled my plastic engine cover off just after I got mine and hung it in the shed, today doing my weekly "Look and See" I find the cover where it clipped onto the engine had been slowly wearing thru the wires to No1 Injector, one wire was showing copper, all nicely repaired now but I'm so glad I pulled the thing off, I've got a collection in the shed now as I pull them all off, I think they hold the heat, collect heaps of dirt and crap, more importantly things can be happening unseen until too late, like the dreaded black death. ( When the seal on an injector lets go just slightly and this black mass slowly expands all over the place, not nice and the injector is sort of glued in)

You'll enjoy your Colorado @boots33 mines been good to travel around in so far , would like electric seats though.

Yeah i think it must be, certainly no filter of any kind on the end.

Yep the front ones seem to be up in the engine bay already. and i will relocate the rear diff breather up with the tail light assembly just to be sure.

I reckon the mod to protect the water drain on the fuel filters is a must

you mentioned that you did find somewhere that supplied aftermarket covers. do you have a link to them at all.

Have you managed to locate a workshop manual, seems to be nothing around that i can find. Must never break down :)

My rear springs being original softies have now been replaced, was going to wait till I got home but they were hitting the bump stops without the van on back so I picked up a set of Blue Max springs from Spicers Springs in Melb and after 3 hrs have now gone from 110mm to 170mm from top of spring pack to the chassis which is probably a bit more as this lot have more leaves, anyway rides nicer and will be good to see how it all sits when I hook the van on later in the week.

Checked out ARB way too expensive, Ironman was a good price but got some sad reviews but these seemed to get overall good reports plus head office is in QLD so I can walk in with any complaint.

Original without van, with van it dropped maybe 15mm

Now in Canberra and another Mod done, got fed up with setting up the panels (80w) to charge the aux battery and then unplugging it all to go out in the Ute, same with plugging in 240 for fridge so the portable panels, ain't anymore, mounted them on the roof, prised the controller off and fitted inside the shed and all is good. Tek screwed the panels down from inside so they will have to wreck the things to pinch them.....need a new battery though as the old one is near stuffed but will just get another wet deep cycle, sits outside in a rack so no need for an expensive Gell like in the van...........Camping at the Epic Centre ( Canberra Showgrounds) way better than the van parks, GR8.

Zip Ties trimmed, all working......Beer O'clock.

Utepanel01.jpg

Controller stuck to wall, thankfully all working after some delicate prizing from the back of the panel.......wiring will be tidied up "In the fullness of time ", tomorrow or maybe next week.......

Sat down with the trip log and calculator, it is scary looking at the fuel and Dollars spent this trip, so far nearly 10,000kms and the Colorado has averaged 13.4lts/100km mostly with the Tardis hanging off the back so it's not too bad I suppose, covered flat country, hills, head winds and freeways, haven't been driving for fuel economy just for comfort so maybe 80k on rural and 100k on the freeways/highways, I'm happy with that, the Jeep would have given better but couldn't carry all the gear.
Still about 4 weeks till we get back home and maybe another 3000k to go.
Burill Lake for a week, need some Yaking and fishing had enough of relly visiting.............................oh and the new Chinese rubber that came with the Colorado will make it home but will be near the indicators when we get home, done sterling service but will only last about 25K on the drive...................................more money !!!!!!!!! would like some Geolanders but Hanhooks will probably end up with.
