Today we stopped and had a look at Warrina Ruins and also did our 1st river crossing with the Expanda on the back at the very salty Peake Ck. It is also a great spot to stretch your legs as there is also ruins near the crossing

Algebukina Bridge this is where we turned off a little early and tested the articulation between the Cruiser and Expanda. We had lunch down under the bridge next to the Neale River. You can also camp here along the river. The bridge is made up of 19, 30.9mt spans and is heritage listed and use to carry the Ghan over the Neales River

It was into Oodnatta for a refuel and a quick look around town and at the Pink Roadhouse before heading through the Painted Desert, before camping at Arkaringa station for the night.

The drive through the Painted Desert was spectacular with the sun starting to get lower inn the sky. he road through there involved driving through and along creek beds which was quiet soft in some sections so with the Expanda on momentum was the key as not to bog down to much and also not to get to close to the edge as that was also very soft. There is a awesome lookout and also a walk that can be done in the Painted Desert.

Really enjoying the pics cruza driver - takes me back to similar trip we did in about 1992 - Triton double cab 3l petrol - 3 children under 11, 2 popup tents to sleep in - 7500km in 17 days - averaged 17.5 mpg - 8 vehicles all together - scenery wonderful just like your pics. Good times - the kids (now all grown up) still remember it.
Can't wait to do it again with our Expanda (due November)!!

It would be even better for me if I could at least see the photos. I got nothing, no matter what browser I use :-(

I have no idea why, does nayone else have this problem?

Arkaringa Station is in the heart of the Painted Desert which makes it a perfect place to set up camp for some exploring. We will be back there in the future but for longer next time. It cost $20 a night for an unpowered spot which includes showers and toilets, fires are also allowed but bring your own wood. There was another couple there with a roof top tent who was also enjoying the outback of Australia. It was a great place to enjoy another outback sunset!

One thing I was very impressed with was how well the factory tyres did, there is no signs of chipping or the like
581.jpg
These signs are very handy in the area as there is a few intersections to take

The first 84km of day 9 was spent on more dirt roads and through cattle stations and through the scenic Copper Hills which was a great way to start the day. We popped back onto the bitumen and the Stuart Hwy at Candney Park Roadhouse where we aired up amongst all the clean vans and vehicles refueling. There must have been at least a minimum of 15 vans and camper trailers there migrating nth for the winter.

Then it was another 257km before topping up the fuel and grabbing a bite to eat at Kulgera roadhouse. Whilst there we phoned ahead to the Macdonnel Range CP and we were lucky to get the last prebooked site left. Its approx 273km from here to Alice so all up we travelled about 616km which compared to what we had been doing on the Oodnatta trk was a big day km wise. Before checking into the CP it was off to the carwash to give the Expanda a good clean!
