I take tons of pics, often and repeatedly. Few weeks back I came across a random pic of one of my suspension axle frames and taken in early 2018. I can only assume the shock absorber was the subject but in trying to work that out I noticed the coil plate weld fractured. Cursed we'd managed to crack the suspension, but blessed I had this random photo
I wasn't looking forward to dropping out the frame to re weld the damage and after a couple of weeks of procrastinating, I finally launched in to start the removal . After all, we're desperate to get away and didn't want this to curtail any chance to escape, albeit we'd done a few 1000 of blissfully unaware and uneventful kms in the 2 1/2 years since that photo was taken. But disaster doesnt strike when you dont know, it waits until you know and then tempt fate
I managed to fix the issue without removing the frame. All the annoyance and worry evaporated when I took anoither photo only this time a little higher than the first and the camera flash repaired the broken weld by flooding the shadows. No matter how hard I tried, how many more pics I took I couldnt replicate the original "broken weld" perfectly placed shadow pic
Anyways, the mood turned to happier thoughts, buoyed to the successful welding repair and I decided a full inspection, and comprehensive service, clean and some lockdown love was now in order. I cleaned the undercarriage in a mix of petrol and diesel to washes off any grease and oil. Pump sprayer, a high pressure cleaner, all on a creeper (with the creepy dude) is a recipe for a cold and wet afternoon. Ordered 4 new shocks to replace the tired old well worn originals. 4 new tyres to replace the Toyo Open Country's, maybe stick to the Toyos but I have a look at some other brand$$$.
Scrubbed the tent section and work has started inside the van cleaning the entire interior, emptying cabinets etc. Good time to cull the crap we don't use and reseal all the dust points.
Ive done a bit of fluffing about with flow restrictors on the shower to minimise water waste. I replaced the shower rose and after some experimenting found the shower rose with the worlds best low flo spray pattern. The shower with the tap on full is now running at 4.5ltrs and the flo and pattern is better than the original shower rose was guzzling a whopping 11ltrs on the pump. I have an external PLV which limits mains pressure to 200kPa out of the tap, before it reaches the van, which is less flo and pressure on mains than on the pump. I reduced mains pressure to minimise sink and basin splash back, and increase the run time of the gas/elec tank hot water. We've just got used to the 200kPa flo now so on the pump its quite a step up in flo for us. Regardless of mains or pump the shower maintains 4.5ltrs
Scrubbed the outside of the van, but Ive finally conceded that boat wash and car wash are nothing more than expensive theatrical bubbles in a cpolourful bottle but actually do bugger all, my hand and running hose water removed more grime. Ill find something a bit more aggressive and wash it down again later before a polish. Windows scratches are already polished out, and clean the entire chassis and subfloor with a phosphoric or hydrofluoric acid which works a freaken treat, just spray and just hose off. The red dirt staining will be a thing of the past
Repaired the annoying bouncing Winegard. Winding the Winegard down it would start to bounce and the more you wind the more it bounces, the Princess refuses to touch it. Another long over repair and reseal
I need to look at extending the vans rear bar away from the van so I can mount the fold-up boat trailer behind the spare wheel
I have the Reese V5 WDH, and the combined harvester height of the Troopy has rendered my shank useless. The V5 hitch is no longer made, being fully welding as most now are cast. I managed to find a 50032 replacement shank (Google that, its massive) but it needs a new pinhole, so Ill have to wait for the local engineer to open up
