I bought one of the Seagate devices on Friday, just gotta set it up.
Thought it'd be great for the 14hr plane trip next week as well as all our driving trips.

Bit of an issue. It only works with MP4 video's
All 900+ movies I have on my computer are in AVI format, so now I have to convert all the ones I want to MP4.

A right PITA...........>:(>:(

Yep had to do that with the buffalo.. some went out of sync with the converting program.. yes PITA. Most newer stuff mp4 so at least not all.
Have you tried another program to see if it accesses it better? Was told you can try third party ones, I have not tried myself.

I tried putting an AVI onto it and my Ipad showed up an error message that this file format couldn't be played, so I guess I'll just spend the next few days trying to convert as many as I can.....:censored:

I use one of these:
View attachment 23069
With an external high gain antenna attached to the top of my TV antenna.
And connect all the devices to the ZONET Router/WIFI extender. (EBAY)
View attachment 23071
The ZONET is the only device that connects to the 4G modem.
I have a ALDI media server that runs on 12v that connects to the ZONET and all devices on the network can stream movies off it.

All these devices run off the battery so we can still have the internet when free camping (required for my work)

Does the Zonet have the ability to connect to the Telstra WiFi modem? Coz I believe Teltra WiFi modem has no network cable to connect to

cheers TRAKADU

Yes it does and no the wifi modem doesn't have any Ethernet ports. You could at one stage buy a base for the Telstra wifi that had Ethernet plugs, but I only saw that in the supplied catalogue never seen it for sale anywhere else.

@Matty4 and @Dean81 ......... I need your help urgently. On finding this post a couple of weeks ago, and thinking about it, I went and bought the seagate wireless plus. Thought I had it sussed and working, but had the same issues as you @Matty4 with all movies in either mkv or avi format. Lucky me found an app that converted them, so set about doing it. Unfortunately I stuffed something up, and now the iPad's won't connect to the plus. It will find and hook into the wifi, but then in the seagate media app, it won't connect and so won't read the movies at all. Have tried refreshing it, restoring to factory settings, reformat it to Mac OS only. I'm out of ideas and have no idea what to do. Wondering if you have any suggestions, in basic words, as I'm not that Mac literate!

Hi @Smirke, sorry been away all weekend.
Have you tried turning everything off and back on again? Especially the iPads?
I know I had connections issue at the start, after updating the software and turning everything off for a few minutes and back on again it did allow me to watch movies again.
Let me know if this works, otherwise I'll grab mine out and have a play. We are in between vans at the moment and haven't been using the seagate lately.

Hi @Smirke, I haven't used our Seagate for a while now so I can't really offer any alternative solutions to what @Dean81 has already suggested.
I have read that nPlayer is a much more user friendly app that lets you watch all video formats, including MKV. Haven't tried it myself yet though.

Thanks guys. Had my neighbour look at it tonight. He recommends taking it back as he is sure there is something wrong with it. (He works in IT). When you type in the 172.25.0.1 in the address bar (or whatever you call it) it just says database is initializing and to wait a few seconds. Nothing can be loaded on to it and it shows the battery to be almost dead, even though it has been charging for 2 days straight. Bit disappointed. Promised my neighbour that when I get the replacement, I'll call him to install it.......just in case.

Woooo hoooooo! Took it in to Harvey Normans after work today. Asked the guy there to show me how to hook it up. He couldn't. Got a new one, which just happened to connect straight away. Said the other one must have been faulty, so just swapped it over.
Now to convert all the movies into mp4 format so that it works.

For avi format movies etc I have heard that if you download VLC media player it will work.
I don't have a wifi hard drive but have just ordered one of these from fleabay

q-40.jpg

Plug your HD in and it will stream to your devices. Thought I would give it a go before buying the Seagate. Approx $20 inc postage.

Looks cool. Hope it works.
Got mine working. (Had a faulty unit, so got it swapped). Can confirm, VLC works great on avi and mkv movies streamed from the seagate. I couldn't be bothered converting the " mum n dad" movies, so checked it out. All good.
Must say, with all the steel we have between our floors, the seagate doesn't even notice it, however our internet wifi does!
