Just putting a question out there about wether to put a chip in the pathie and if so which one? Looking at chip my diesel.com as it has great reviews. Any other thoughts? Need to improve fuel economy whilst towing.

im no expert but looked into this for my prado decided not to will just get a bigger exhaust and a snorkel

There seems to be three types.
1. Those that increase rail pressure (the real cheap ones)
2. The middle ground that are sold by tunit, red dog, berrima etc that use a similar case and the software is set up by the company. (middle money)
3. Steinbauer. (Expensive)

Some of the second group are having a good old stoush over copyright.
For me its the Steinbauer. Super professional crew and fantastic quality.

Bleuy, the Prado has a shocking dump pipe so fitting a 2 3/4" mandrel system is as good as a chip. Fit a quality chip after and you will have a rocket. Our 1kztd (non D4D) makes more power than a standard D4D Prado.

cheers

I removed the Steinbauer from my recently sold Navara 2.5 D40. It will be appearing on eBay shortly. My research put the Steinbauer as the best option, and safest chip for the engine. Even though it was shown to be functioning correctly on a dyno, to be honest i struggled to feel any difference. Measuring acceleration rates over time seemed to make a difference, but i certainly couldnt "feel the power".

Yep Uni- chip for me as well, most tuneable on the market. 3 stage switch in the cab to switch between economy, towing & power tune on the go and you can remove when selling the car and put it in your next one.

Take my personal experience - do NOT use a chip which increases the fuel rail pressure! My D40 was in Nissan for extensive repairs where they replaced all injectors, turbo, diesel pump and finally the rail which fixed the issues it was having - all before three years old! Thanks to a chipit chip.....

Use something that measures injector length. Although, by not adding more boost, you will raise EGT's and kill your engine eventually.....

Best course is a proper ECU tune. I now have a Ranger and have had this done. Much, much better. Then again, I wouldn't have a Nissan again in my life if someone gave me one.......
