Was in Cooma at Easter (Lake Eucumbene) -1 one night no snow and no issue with frozen pipes but the PJ didn't like starting next morning, may not have let the glow plug do it's thing, so if the tug is a diesel make sure you add a diesel additive or top up with Alpine Diesel which should be now readily available in the region.

Yeah good point re the diesel. Yes all the locals should have alpine now. The caltexs get it delivered as an alpine mix, all the others add the additive to the servo tanks. Never really found an issue with either but always thought the Pajero ran best on alpine mix?

I think it normally comes out in May. Only problem is it's such a gamble as to what they have and if you can get in before the other vultures.
Might camp out in front of the local store the night before.

Just watch the Aldi ski gloves, we ski Canada each year, and tried the gloves one year on our kids. The gloves turned out to be super absorbent, and not good at all. had to replace after a day. All the other Aldi stuff we have tried, or heard from others who use, has been very good though.

Sawpit Creek is on the Perisher Smiggins road about 15km from Perisher and just below the permanent (winter ) snow line. It used to be a National Parks campground but now seems to be privately run and called Kosciusko Retreat

Alpine Diesel is not yet available in the ACT but should be soon.

That's something we want to do one day....looks great, how long does it take to get to the Skiing fields from Sawpit Creek @The Goodwins ? Was Firewood easy to get hold of or purchase?

Thx - HM
Sorry @Holden_man have been slack. Firewood was available and not expensive $10 a bag from memory with kindling everywhere to start the fire. By the way....the Prado....hasn't missed a beat since coming off the tow truck........its frustratingly like nothing ever happened and as for Toyota it was "You can pay us by the hour to search for the issue"

Hi BigSkiddy we went to Jindabyne last July in the expanda. Stayed at the Jindabyne caravan park (Discovery Holiday Park) fantastic amenities, camp kitchen, lounge with log gas fire, all centrally heated. Our expanda does not have had lid bed ends so we were concerned about the cold, no problems with the heater on low all night. No problems with pipes or hoses freezing, but I did have 10 litre water container inside for morning coffee etc incase hoses froze. We had a great week of skiing. On our last night the wind picked up, rushing down the valley across the lake, sounded like a freight train. We were very lucky as it was going over the top of us and not hitting us. They don't call the place Windabyne for nothing. This is the only van park we have come across that has tie down points for your annex. Tent pegs just wouldn't cut it. You will have a fantastic time, I am very jealous.:02.47-tranquillity:

@Dede We did check out the park at Jindabyne, has great facilities. I'm not a fan of caravan parks and thought Sawpit Creek was a bit more 'adventurous'.
Looking forward to it, although it's starting to work out to be quite an expensive trip!

Hi Skiddy. We checked out both sites (Jindabyne & Sawpit creek) and while Jindabyne was well laid out and had all the facilities - including tie downs for your annex - Sawpit Creek is way closer to the slopes (so a 10 minute drive rather than a 45 minute drive), had drive through sites, and just felt a bit more like you were in the snow rather than in a crowded park. The wind tends to hit hard in Jindabyne but Sawpit Creek has a lot more protection. Still a bit concerned about the annex and the hard lid - but I will just have to make sure all is tied down and pegged well. Ran into someone with a Basestation and 5 kids who uses Sawpit Creek every year with no issues at all. So we have a few nights there Mid August - get to test out the new drying room. Nice to be able to use the Jeep in the snow as well - see how well the snow setting cuts it in our slush and ice!

Thanks @Macropod good to know that your thoughts on Sawpit Creek, I haven't been there so what you've said is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I don't have annex or soft walls so if it gets windy ill just lower the top down.
Good being only 10min from the slopes, can duck back for lunch or drop off cold and wet kids/wife and head back.
Yeah will have to test the Jeep in the snow for sure.

Hi @BigSkiddy
We are thinking of doing something similar next year, will watch this with interest, you say it's getting Exy, what sort of things are making it expensive if you don't mind me asking.

Thx - HM
