If you were buying a new van would you buy it if it came with a fridge that was only rated to work efficiently to 32deg.

Definitely not, what would be the point if you want to travel in northern Australia and it would be unrealistic anyway given the Australian climate, might be alright in Europe though.

After having the Waeco compressor fridge, I would never go back to an absorption style fridge. I would order the van without a fridge and have a compressor style put in after delivery.
I'm seriously considering removing my 3 way and replacing with a compressor fridge! Just need to convince SWMBO that it is a necessity and not just another Gadget!
Never need to change power source, economical on the batteries and best of all, will turn it on tomorrow when we pack the van and it will be cold within the hour.
by the way been to the show sorted out the silverline fridge is tropical rated just the dometic web site was ambigious the rmd 8555 is t rated so ok for northern australia
I love the absorption style fridge. Good old fashioned technology and soooo quiet. Gotta be impressed with something that keeps your beer cold using a flame.
You should patent that and get it under way. I would defiantly buy 1. We run the big fridge on gas when we don't have power. The engel is outside of the van and running about 4 degrees. you still here it's compressor kick in during the night.
Don't here the waeco van fridge, runs as quiet as the absorption fridge. I know the car fridges, both Engel and waeco are noisy.
Well tried the cheap way out and fitted the dometic fan kit to the back of the fridge this weekend and being it was a warm couple of days was a good opportunity to try it out the fan has seemed to make a bit of a difference to an empty fridge, have noted that with the fan running and an ambient temp of 35 deg it got down to 2 deg and without the fan temp rose to 5 deg within an hour. checked the serial number and my fridge has a ST (Sub tropical ) rating, will report back with more as we are off for 10 days on Thursday down south
After I refitted my Dometic absorbtion fridge the way it was supposed to be in the first place and added a couple of computer fans it works just as good as my Engel and I'm a big fan of Engels mines been running since 1978 but i do like the ability to run on gas of the Dometic, food kept good in the van and the beer very cold in the Engel.....
