I will soon find out the joys of covers as the new rig will need one as it won't fit in the old van shed...

We tried with poles, and all they did was bend.

Tried with SWMBO on one side and me on the other, but all that resulted in was an argument.

In the end, I fold the sides in to the middle, roll it up, and put it up on the back with a ladder, then roll it towards the front.

Manage to get it done by myself using this method, even though the 21 is huge, it seems to work OK
Exactly the right way. After years of using two ladders, poles, brooms and a certain amount of cursing the 'roll-out' method saw me get the cover on in 5 minutes on my own last weekend.

A modicification to the task - I roll the cover onto a 2.4m piece of timber (soon to be a 90mm piece of pvc down pipe) towards the front when taking it off (with help to roll it up). I do this by gently dragging the cover forwards after getting the back up high enough to clear the roof. It doesn't tend to snag and I too bought the Clarke Rubber corners for the solar panel.

To put it on, I then simply put that roll across the rear width of the van roof and using a ladder on one side, unroll it - again towards the front. Bingo. This thread gives some guidance albeit I now use a pole to roll it onto.

Before we start sorry about the underlines and bold - the feature got stuck on, so not intentional.
:doh:
Covers on sale again;

I think the unearth cover Looks well made. I think the pricing is Middle of the range, but to me the quality looks quite good? If you can get 20pc off I don't think you would be disappointed.
Putting the cover on alone;
Just like @Bellbirdweb said, I think we did it a similar way. I stretched it out alongside caravan on the drive, then rolled it up from rear to front. Then lobbed the roll up on the front roof, and rolled it out to the back. Managed to pull the sides down. Mostly off ladder and took ten mins.

OK fellas (@Gilmorehappy and @twscoot ).......a quick and simple question here. I too do the "roll it up or roll it out" method for getting the cover on the van BUT, do you just stand on the ladder on one side to roll it, or do you actually climb onto the roof? (i just can't seem to get it to roll without swapping sides all the time - Your pipe inclusion might work for me though @twscoot ).

I use a ladder, I've never been game to climb on the roof for fear of damaging it and the plethora of things that are sitting up there.

I do find the rolling out method to be the easiest, but still a bit of mucking around on a can of the height of ours.

true. I keep swapping sides and pulling the ladder with me. (plus, not liking heights makes it a quick solo job. so if I can find a quicker, easier enhancement to add to the method......all the better!)

I tend to do most of it from one side when putting it on. Swap the ladder perhaps twice to the other side. Never get on the roof and I find no ladder is needed to remove it.

My BCF gift cards won't get to me in time for the sale, oh what a bother !!!!!!!........but I have an idea for a cunning set up to apply the cover, conversion of a truck idea but will have to wait till I get the rig and do the trial and error bit..........new house will have to have a 3mt car port, so looks like I already have a mod for the new place.....

How do you not need a ladder to remove it??
Lift the cover at the rear of the van so it just sits on the roof (I stand on the spare wheel but could do this very easily with a broom). Then standing at the front of the van, gently pull (and 'wind' it onto a piece of timber/pipe the width of the van - using two people to keep it a relatively neat roll). It just slides off.

@Gilmorehappy is your new cover the Unearth brand???
I can't work out BCF online at the moment the pop top models are dearer than the 22-24 ft model, maybe a typo??
We are looking for a cover for the new arrival, and if the prices are correct that's pretty cheap.

Yep it is the unearth brand. Also check 'Ray's Outdoors' where they are direct competitors with BCF and also stock unearth. Funny the retailers are cheaper than eBay these days from what I have seen recently?
