Hi all.

Looking at at few days in Canberra. One place we have looked at is "Canberra Motor Village". Seems close to town (I know Canberra reasonably well - lived there 25 years a go) and as we are going in June (Brrrrrr) it has to be a park or we will freeze to death.:smow:

Anyone know this park or others they would recommend?:spy:

Thanks!

We stayed there in February for one night. Staff were helpful, but they were doing a lot of renovations so there was some chaos which may have improved. BBQ was about 500 mtrs from our van, and stumbling there in the cold and dark wasn't a great experience.
Personally I'd try another park if I ever had the misfortune to have to visit the city again.

Cheers and good luck

It seems to me to be the best of a bad bunch! For some reason there is little choice for caravan parks here n the capital!

The only one I could even go close to recommending down that way is Hill Crest (I think thats the name) in Queanbeyan sites are a bit smal though but well kept, we only did a 1 nighter there, the other was just north of Canberra, Eagle Rock (I think) Very open, in the flight path, but not to noisy, ensuite sites were the better ones but no grass or concrete unless improved since I was there about 18 months ago

Stayed at the motor village Easter 2011. I had no problem with it. Drive through hard surface sites, with conc pads for annex and softer surfaces adjoining, reasonable amenities (close by), pool (the kids don't care about the temperature), treed sites, birdlife, view to the black mountain tower from the sites. (It was even where we started to look at expandas and talk to the owners thereof)

At the end of the day, the one big negative we couldn't escape, was....its in Canberra :D

Sorry I have taken so long to provide feedback - Big Gee we stayed at Riverside Queanbeyan and it was very nice. Thanks for your help!

The power box was a long way from our site and beyond the reach of our 30 metre cable and the park loaned us another lead so we could reach. Clean, friendly and despite being in town quiet thanks to the noise of the river drowning out the traffic.

Yep.....weather was great: clear and sunny by day (12-14 deg) and cold by night which is to be expected.

Haven't been to the AWM for over 20 years so as an ex-digger I was impressed with that. Old Parliament House (now Museum of Australian Democracy) was good, although many renovations are underway and also went to Parliament House which is an impressive building very much let down by it's inhabitants. We saw both the House and Senate in action and frankly our politicians aren't worth feeding - all with delusions of adequacy!

The High Court was worth a look - very quiet as not in session but the stewards/guide/security people were great and very friendly and knowledgable. Questacon too for the kids plus many other art galleries and the Lake to walk the dog around.

Round abouts! So many round abouts! I reckon people have grown old on them because they got lost!

We visited Canberra last year, hadn't been there for 28 years.....beautiful place, very clean and tidy. My wife left me at the AWM after 5hrs.....so much to see it was awesome! Can highly recommend a stop at Canberra, the kids also loved Questacon. Glad you enjoyed BOD!

One thing we did at the AWM was the closing ceremony. There is a closing ceremony each day that is very much worth seeing. Simple, dignified and tasteful.
