Can I still be a member if I go over to the dark side

The one thing good about Jayco is resale and brand awareness. I have had two work colleagues recently go through the process of trying to sell their lovely vans so they could upgrade. Both magnificent vans made by smallish builders, one had to sell at a fairly reduced price than what he wanted, he was told by a caravan sales place," I know who made your van but the average punter hasn't heard of it, not like they know Jayco". The other is still trying to sell his van, it is like brand new, only used for a few short trips and he has dropped about $15k and still cannot get a sniff. He is now looking at Jayco's again.

Of course you can stay a member! Expanda forum discounts will still apply? :)

Understand the point you're making, but gotta disagree.
As a building designer I used to tell clients (including my missus) that we need to consider resale. Now I tell them that they are the ones who are living in it. Design and build it how they want, how it will work for them in their life. Don't worry about what may or may not happen 5, 10 years down the track.
I reckon the same for the van - as long as the manufacturer is good enough to do the job the SS wants done (and I think we know he'll be pretty picky :) ), forget the longevity of the name and just enjoy it yourself.

Can he stay??..... Yeah, but only cos we want to see a whole new batch of mods come about :)

We crossed over....but love the full van, we ended up with a custom built X-Country Crusader 19' with wheels and tyres to match the 200LC, diesel heater, 3 x water tanks plus filter, 3.5kw inverter RC A/C, 215 compressor fridge and independent coil springs, two bunks.

The overall finish is better than the two Jayco's we have had but there are still things I have had to fix or sort out but can't complain for $59k, they do have some cool things like you can individually fill each tank while plugged into mains water via 3 taps under the van and if you run out of water the tank switching is in the cupboard, mixer filter tap in the one, all cupboards are double skinned with gas struts and one action lift up handles.

It tows great but this is the first tandem axle we have had, it's amazing to pull up for an overnighter and all I do is grab a beer...job done... well almost.

Some pictures below and mods done but lots to go.

The remote solar regulator read out (regulator dearer than the panels) and the water gauge I posted to Crusader

Put a slide out BBQ in, I like this brand as we had it in the expanda also making a slide out table

Need to make a cover for the A/C

Just added an extra inline mixer tap as we find the pump pumps a massive amount of water through the shower head and when you only pull the mixer on half way it pumps a lot of hot so will try this tap also

Yep nice van, my mate is on his 2nd Crusader and loves them. Why split a/c instead of rooftop. Must add a bit to the front.

Thanks Macca, after a lot of research I wanted to try an A/C that actually worked and would run off of a Honda 2kva.

The A/C weight is 35kg but the weight is not high on the roof and it works amazingly, when you turn it on with the Honda 20eui slowly picks up revs depending on the temp you have set the A/C at.

When we were at Lake Bonney at Christmas it was around 44deg outside and the van was in full sun, we set the temp for 26deg at lunch and the genny was running around 900-1200w then after an hour of running and reaching 26deg inside the van the genny fluctuates between idle and 400w mean while always pumping cold air as the compressor just slows down.

I have pulled the unit apart and fixed the compressor so it is mounted well and won't break pipes, my brother works in QLD in the RV industry and these are the only units they install and also the Humpback also only use these splits.

Time will tell though if it will go the distance but for a complete unit replacement fully gassed is $800 so I thought it was worth a punt.

The heating side is awesome but only tried this at home on mains so far and have the diesel heater for bush camps.

Christian, Very nice van, you really don't do things by 1/2's. Do I sence a bit of Dejavu, that 1st pic with tug and van look familiar to one we've seen with Hilux and Expanda, been there before have you?? Pace.
