Just ordered my 17.56-2 for delivery in August 2014. Outback Version.
-External Shower
- Annex
- External TV & Table
- Privacy Curtains
- ESC
- Fusio Radio etc.

Was thinking about installing a swivel shock proof coupling. Any thoughts??
Anyone had issues with the standard drawbar, and opening the door of a Prado 150 Series??

I pull the van with a Toyota Kluger which has a maxium towing capacity of 2000kg, according to the RTA, as long as i dont go over my maxium towing capacity of the car i"m legal even though my ATM on the van is 2499kg so water tanks are emptied before travelling, they account for approx 250kg whwn full. Also on that you will only need to full your water tanks when your freedom camping because if your at the parks your water will come straight from the mains to your van bypassing your 2 water storage tanks.
my kids are 2 and 5yrs old, they love the van.

Umm.........are you sure about that?
I think you'll find that the tow vehicle must be rated to tow the plated ATM of the caravan. There is no way that combination is legal.
Whether or not your van is loaded to its max (ATM) weight or not is irrelevant.

If you're involved in an accident and (god forbid) the van is damaged with your contents strewn all over the road, the Police and your insurance co. will have no way of knowing exactly how heavy you were, so you can pretty much guarantee they will assume you were at your plated ATM, therefore assuming that you're 500kg over the max towing capacity of the vehicle, kiss your insurance good-bye, not to mention any traffic infringements for being overloaded.
So not worth it IMHO, especially with family onboard.
Toyota only rate the Freddie to 2000kg max for a reason.

I've driven plenty of them and I certainly wouldn't want 2T on the back of one.

Hi everyone! I'm a noob to caravanning and this forum, and am picking up our first caravan in around a week's time! Re the oven issue, I own an AIRFRYER XL which I actually use in my kitchen at home ALL the time - it cooks anything that you can cook in an oven, but does it in about half the time - example: chips take approx 8 minutes and taste like they have been deep fried :) - you can roast anything in it as well.

Whenever I have gone tent camping previously (well more like "glamping" so I've been told lol), I take this with me and use it almost every day to cook things for breakfast, lunch, dinner etc - we have two kids so it's very handy for bacon, nuggets, garlic bread and all those things!

You would need power of course to use it, and when we go on our first caravan trip I will set it up outside under the awning :)

Just an alternative option to consider so that you don't lose out on storage space - they are not cheap, however as I use mine on a daily basis at home as well, it has been well worth the money!

Hi Bluey, we have the same van and I can add that the 150ltr fridge is a great, havinga family you probably already nailed that one down. External Gas Bayonet point is good, you can get the 3 meter bayonet hose from any webber specialist or bbq place. If you have an ensuite as we do, you run out of pantry space so the hanging closet besides the fridge will require storage racks. Get you cushions sealed with either 3M scotch guard or wwe had the electrodry guy come clean and seal ours in. Having little kids we also opted for the fold away double bunk, this became their area. The Aircommand sparrow A/C does a great job and has a dehumidifier for tropical areas. Good luck with it, bet your excited!

Hi, in response to the ATM being higher than the vehicles rating, this is fine on any trailer/caravan, so long as the tare weight plus the load do not exceed the vehicles rating. I have it in writing from the DPTI - please read below (note I have crossed out names for privacy reasons). However, I do agree that a 2 tonne vehicle is perhaps not sufficient to tow the 1756 2 caravan with any load whatsoever....I will leave this to you to decide...below is the situation I had and the response from the DPTI.

Dear

The towing capacity of your Pajero is 2500kg, this is the weight of the caravan/trailer and load that it can tow, not what the ATM or GTM of the caravan you wish to tow cannot exceed.
If the caravan has a ATM of 2560kg then proved it is not loaded beyond 2500kg then it can be legally towed by your vehicle.
You could tow a caravan with a ATM of 4000kg behind your vehicle provided the all up weight of the caravan and load does not exceed 2500kg. These are when it is weighed with the caravan standing alone and not hooked on to the tow vehicle.
Hope this helps and if you have any other questions please let me know.

dagree notice the blank switch on end of seats got them to move the hot water switch so kids don't turn it on its now in the cupboard near the oven
Had a similar issue with our previous van.... Luckily in the new one the switch is up higher under the microwave.

We bit the bullet and someone else put our new carport up after digging out the second drive, retaining and new paving. Dog stays in the back behind the tin fence!!

Did the same with the sail track on our previous van and used the sunblocker screen to keep some shade on the windows and to put the bikes under.... Still tossing up whether to do it to the new one and buying a smaller screen??? Fitted the sail track inside the pop top catches so it wouldn't foul them.

Can't help with the height with the pop top up as we only concentrated on the travel height when organising the parking area.

Did need longer occy straps to peg them out but had enough cover to shade the van and cover most of the bikes.
