when we got our 17 it had a light infestation, the previous owner used lots and lots of talcum powder but didnt really do much as they were already in the van, we used ant rid,(the sticky liquid in the small bottle) around the van, also found a 4 pack of bait stations at woolies which we put in places with lots of ant movement, and also lots of ant sand around drop jacks, wheels, (anything that was in contact with ground)
end result is a van free of ants, just need to keep up the outside treatment to stop them getting near the van.
1 battle won but the war is just beggining

Having waged an 10yr war with ants at home, I have found that the Antrid strategically placed works. the pest people have things called ant cafés which are plastic boxes to fill with ant rid and place in there tracks. It's is also important to find there tracks and use the Antrid all the way along. Remember though the UV kills its effectiveness so you need to cover it.

I like the talc trick though and will be using it next trip.

Good to hear them pesky ants are gone @Peter Black.

Only just seeing this conversation thread... for others looking for an alternative, I've had great success with Astro Aerosol Residual Insecticide (330g spray can). It must be good if you can't buy it over the counter in QLD... but as my local pest controller told me “eBay or online shops down south aren’t' restricted to where they send it”.

"A technician favourite, Astro Aerosol is an industrial strength application. A long lasting residual insecticide specifically formulated to control crawling insects."

Pest controller also recommended Antmaster Liquid Ant Killer Bait with strategically placed bait stations . I didn’t see this stuff attract too much because I think the insecticide took care of most of the ants…

I'll be sure to give the talc a run on the next trip too.

Talc has worked for us. Good old Black and Gold stuff!!
I was also under the impression that ants did not climb up on rubber and in the Sterling we never had a problem ever with ants, but the new Starcraft is another matter. Whilst it has been sitting at home we noticed ants inside and found them climbing up the jockey wheel!! The Starcraft sits in the exact same spot as the Sterling did so I am not sure why they are in the Starcraft??? We sprinkled Ant Fix around the wheel and so far no more ants!! Went for the big guns to get rid of them instead of the talc this time but talc is the usual remedy and Ant Fix for the house.

I stayed at Sue bridge (near margaret river) a couple of weeks ago and got fooled by ant. I put Ant Killa around any thing that touched the ground but missa small branch touching the side of the expanda, within 12 hours the Expanda was flooded with small black ants .Spent about an hour cleaning it up and then finnished the rest off when we got home.
